Mamba's top selling reel is black mamba gear twisted, yet most of this thread has been about iontec. Has anyone played the gear twisted, or the gear? How do they compare to iontec hexa?

Bad news bears...

I had my first encounter with premature breakage last night. This is the frame I strung for my econogut tutorial thread. 10 minutes warmup then 3rd return in, big forehand off a funny bounce

I checked the string before installign it and couldn't find any defects and did a clean job especially for the tutorial; I have no clue what happened

^^ It happens whenever you don't hit away from the sweetspot. It looks like you came pretty close to shanking the shot.

I've had my share of frame/near-frame top of the head breakage.

yep, it's quite easy to shear a string if your timing is off and you hit off center.

i generally try to hit the sweetspot. but i find it much easier to consistently hit away from the sweetspot.

I mean it happens man. You're going to shank some balls when returning serves, and dealing with bad bounces. And sometimes, you break strings away from the center.

I know it's hard to believe but it wasn't a shank, at all. It was much higher than I am used to but it was a clean shot. Shear pops and shanks typically happen at the grommets where there's a significant angle tension.

I'm not saying I'm infalliable but I've never popped a string in the center like that when it was brand new. At the edges, yes.

Considering this is the first issue I've ever had (aside from using Titan) I'm still an advocate; I'm just better able to appreciate your point of view haha

MambaT or anybody else that can assist:

I've tried a lot of strings the last few years and Prince Beast XP 17 is my #1 choice. However, price is an issue. Are there any polys Mamba carries that play similair?

Does anyone know O-Power, Iontec, Iontec black and Iontec Hexa, which one is softer?
Thanks a lot!

Iontec Black is the softest. I've played with all of them.

Black, Regular Iontec, Hexa, O-power in terms of softness.

Red face

Is ALU Gear what I think it is? A Luxilon ALU knock off that may play nearly as well but have a longer life than the real thing?

Also, I was wondering if anybody can suggest any Mamba strings that I may enjoy. I'm sampling many strings in the 1.20mm range. I'm a long time Kirschbaum Competition user so I like my poly to be in the middle range of stiffness. Softer than a Pro Hurrican Tour 17 but stiffer than Topspin CyberFlash 16 for your reference.

I'd like a low powered string that can give good spin. I string my Yonex RDS001 Mid in the low 60's(usually 63/62) and I string my PS85(not 6.0) at 57lbs also with Competition 1.20mm so I like a firm string bed that'll give that thump on contact.

The other strings I'm trialling are Gamma Zo Black Ice 18, Tecnifibre Black Code 18, Solinco Tour Bite 18(yeah it seems softer but I need to see what all the hype is about) and Kirschbaum Pro Line II 1.20mm.

I am new to stringing, but I had no problems stringing Supra. I didn't like the few places where it was thinner (made me nervous) but overall I like it so far. I am currently using the 16 G full bed but may try the 17 G and see if it's closer to a usual 17 G.

I mean, it's half the price of what I would be using instead (Wilson). Maybe I should give Pacific Classic another shot though...

I've got a set of GO 4 GOLD as a courtesy from Mamba.
First of all I'd like to express my gratitude for that.
Now, about the performance;
Strung at 48 these strings felt dead and stiff as no other. I played over the years with many different polys, but this one has in my opinion nothing interesting to comment on.

Found a really nice hitting combo that won't break the bank. Iontec Black 1.25/ Kirshbaum Synthetic 1.30 @ 49/50.

I'll write up a full review when I get a chance which will be here. (complete)

The nutshell version. Very neutral setup with great feel. Good pocketing, decent power, ~4 hours of durability.

Ordered some discho microfibre from mamba. Technically I ordered 2 sets but there were 3 in there which was a nice surprise. People have spoken of the great customer service and I guess you can count me as one who has received a good first impression upon opening my first delivery from them.

I haven't used a microfibre before and I just strung up my first multi the other day and do not like it so I am doubting this will impress me but being a poly guy and being a fan of black widow and polyfibre hexablade I plan to try some of mamba's offerings that are similar.
