Lets talk Chairs...

Hey guys,

As the computer age we all live in rapidly progresses, i find myself sitting at my desk hunched over my laptop for longer and longer periods of time.

Not a day ago, mum told me that my shoulders were drooping forward, and my posture was looking slumped. This got me worried, the last thing i want is a hump back by the age of 20! Sitting on my half broken 29 dollar Ikea chair probably does not help my cause. So ive decided, with my mothers consent and support, to purchase a new 'ergonomic' chair for my desk.

Really im looking for a super ergonomic chair to help releive the stress of sitting at my desk for hours on end. At the desk i work from text books, aswell as my laptop computer. Obviously, i dont want to spend more than i have to, buy my posture and spinal regularity are important to me, so i will try not to be cheap and by the chair on sale! I guess 150 USD would be about what i want to spend, give or take.

A doctor friend of mine, spends hours a day on his computer, and he works on one of those kneeling chairs, the queer looking chairs without the back rests, and i can see how this would force you to keep your correct posture, but ive also heard that they are put a fair bit of pressure on your knees.

I will reiterate, essentially i am looking for the most ergonomic chair available! (within a certain price bracket). Is there a certain TYPE of chair i should be looking at? Or a certain BRAND or shop? Any advice, suggestions and tips on this 'posture chair' topic would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

The best ones for computers are the ones that you rest your knee's on and your butt is leaning up against it kinda sorta. that promotes good posture. it's $80 at office max.

Thanks, yeh, that was the 'kneeling' chair i was referring to! Looks like its a good choice so far, and moderately priced! One thing has me worrying though, its that these seem to be known as 'computer chairs' and like a i said before, about half the time spent at my desk is doin work out of text books and writing etc. Not sure that this chair will work for that? Anyone got any good/bad experiences with the 'kneeling' chairs? Thanks guys, keep the suggestions coming!

Go to Office Depot. Currently selling a full grain leather chair for 30 bucks, a damn dirty deal it is. Then again i may be biased, i work there. So If you're in the Irvine Area, drop in and see PS 6.0 in person. =P

I'd like a big, leather executive chair. That way I can turn away from someone and look like an evil villian type person.

There are many variations, but the one at office max looks like a basic model.

If you need a good multi-purpose chair, I would avoid anything with wheels. Wheels require that you use your back to try and stay still. So just get something with good back support, a high quality foam padding, and no wheels.
