Default Two piece stringing pattern for Babolat Pure Storm Team GT

Could anyone tell me an appropriate two-piece stringing pattern for the Babolat Pure Storm TEAM GT? TW has the one piece listed but not the two piece listed. Thanks in advance.

Or, better yet, teach a man to fish. Is there a way to look at the racquet to determine how to string it with 2 pieces (i.e., where to tie the strings off and whatnot) even if the manufacturer lists only 1 piece stringing instructions? Thanks in advance.

Hi Mateencleaves,

The Pure Storm Team GT is a little different than other racquets where its tie off for the cross at the head is on a cross rather than on a main string. Because of this, stringing 2 piece requires a starting clamp. The tie-offs for this racquet are 6H for the mains and 7T, 11H for the crosses.

The tie-off holes are usually larger than the other holes. Sometimes you need to enlarge some holes yourself, especially if you are using a new grommet set or a thick gauge string..to do this, carefully use an awl and some lubricant such as chapstick or wax.

Hope this helps!

Thanks smucker007. That's exactly what I was looking for. I have a demo version of the frame and saw the tie off on the cross and thought it might have been a stringing mistake, but I guess not. Thanks again!

You could string bottom up with a starting knot but that puts much more stress on the frame than the starting clamp. Use the starting clamp and string top down, that is what I do now.

Yep, the Pure Control mold based frames (Storms, PC, PCZ, etc) require a starting clamp to go top down, otherwise you are forced to string bottom up. It's OK, Babolat has no problem with B-> T stringing, but it's more gentle on the frame otherwise. If you don't have a starter, just use a starting knot and call it a day.

Thanks for all the info. I was able to successfully string the racket. Used top down with a starting clamp.

Like DD said, either way is fine but I think the starting clamp method is easier on weaves and gentler on the grommets where you no longer need a starting knot.

Hmmm...I've been stringing my PSL two-piece with the crosses starting from the top to bottom using a starting knot. I've kind of not really paid too much attention as to which grommets are the official tie offs. Maybe I'm doing something really bad there (please tell me if so), but I just sort of eyeball the grommets and the ones that look a little bigger I use. I've never used a cross to tie off on so I suppose I must be using a standard grommet as a tie-off. Maybe it makes little difference as I tend to use 18 or 17L gauge strings.

Yep, I dunno about weaves, but I love not crushing grommets. I'm just pointing out it's OK to do bottom to top bc I think the vast majority of stringers out there actually don't own a starting clamp. (The distribution might be way different on the TW boards, though)

First you need a line and a hook ... LOL just kidding. You could look for the larger grommet holes that are a tell tail for the tie off holes or look up your stringing pattern. Like like to go to the manufacturer. Here is the Babolat link:

http://www.babolat.com/#/tennis/us/products/43/

from there select your Pure Storm racket and click the link for Stringing Instructions in the lower right.

http://www.babolat.com/media/tennis/...Pure_Storm.pdf

Looking at the legend on the stringing pattern the dotted lines are for 4 knots or two piece stringing. I have to admit the pattern is confusing at first.

Irvin, I remember you posted a link for the pure storm limited (not the + / gt version - just the original). How come babolat doesn't show the stringing pattern for that anymore?

I'm guessing that the stringing pattern is the same as for the gt?

Not sure why they don't list all their patterns but the Pure Srorm Limited is still there as seem on their website.

It is pretty easy to figure out how to string Babolat rackets though. You are going to have 16 mains and mains skip 8H and 8T. Tie off holes are the larger grommet holes. That covers most Babolat rackets.

that's the pure storm limited +, not the original.

This is the original:

So i'm guessing there's three versions? Original, +, and GT?

But that's good to know that babolats have similar stringing pattern. Cheers.

argh this is ridiculously confusing:

Look at the names of these:

http://www.tenniswarehouse-europe.co...BH-BPSLPN.html

http://www.tenniswarehouse-europe.co...H-BPSLPGT.html

http://www.tenniswarehouse-europe.co...BH-BPSLGT.html

http://www.tenniswarehouse-europe.co...BABH-BPSL.html

(these are just the variations of the LIMITED). Some of them have the exact same name, but the abbreviations are capitalized - and they have different paint jobs. What the hell is going on?)

It was just slightly more difficult to weave bottom up. Not exactly sure why, but it just seemed a little bit more cumbersome. Like you said, either way is fine and if you don't own a starting clamp you have to do it bottom up to conform with the stringing pattern. With regards to crushing grommets, I've heard replacing these grommet sets are about as fun as a root canal.

Re: Grommet replacements. (I never ended up stitching the video together... i'll get to that someday...). Most advice applies to PC/S series, too.

I'm a bit confused. I'm looking at the latest Stringer's Digest and I see a PS LTD and PS LTD GT which are 18x20 2pc only w/skips at 9T& 8H,10H. I also see a PS GT and a PS Team which are 16x20 with 8H&8T skips and can be done 1 or 2pc. as well as a bunch of PS Tour variations that are similar 16x20s
What racquet is this in the post!?

Irvin, your post and PDF attachment were very helpful. Wish I had found them earlier than unsuccesfully searching all over the internet, including Babolat website.
