Default How many shoes do pros get?

Like for example Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic how many shoes do they get per tournament? Because it seems like they never get dirty the next match and when they are practicing haha

I have a hunch they get at least 4-5 pairs, especially for a major, maybe more then. There was a pic of Fed in his hotel I remember seeing and he had at least 4 pair sitting by his doorway

The real question is: how do they get shoes which are ready to wear? Both Federer and Nadal generally come out with brand new looking shoes. I seriously doubt either of them sit there and clean yesterday's shoes let alone have time to wear new shoes about to break them in.

I would assume Nike have a guy who looks after Federer/Nadal at the big tournaments who makes sure they have sparkling looking shoes each match... I'd think the most practical way would be to use new ones each time which were broken in somehow with some fancy machine.

Djokovic is not sponsored by Adidas, so he gets as many as he can buy...

^ I thought Djoker had a shoe deal with Adi. Apparel from ST, sneakers from Adi.

This was what I assumed as well, for the really top guys anyway. Michael Jordan used to wear new shoes for every game, so that was at least 82 pairs per year. That didn't even include his other off-court stuff from Nike. I'm sure Rafa/Fed wearing a new pair each match wouldn't be too far-fetched. I've never held player-edition shoes, but I'm also assuming they use a softer material which do not require any breaking-in (plus, they don't need the durability).

I have heard that a guy like Söderling use about 50 pairs during a season. I also know that a guy ranked in the 200-300 needs about 15-20 pairs for one season

Djokovic will not pay for his shoes, not a chance. Even if there is no deal with Adidas, they will give him the shoes, its free advertising and last time I checked he was the best player in the world right now and world number one.

I think I read on Fed's website that he only uses his shoes for 1 match and then sells them for his fundation, so he must get a lot of shoes.

They typically only use 3 pairs of shoes which they break in at practice session before the tourney, and theyre pros, they hire people to clean them. And Djok buys his own shoes, he dosent get his for free. A recall seeing a pic of his Serbia shoes at Miami which Im assuming are one of two pairs he has for Indian Wells and Miami and all other tourneys. But I recall seeing the bottom of his B6s and the white ring was almost gone, the toe was worn pretty well and the side had some pretty good drag on it. I think the pros prefer a little bit of a worn down feel of the shoe.

He does buy his own shoes, he does not get them for free. Djok is free to wear what ever he wants to any given match. He could wear an Adidas one match and some Vapors another and for a final... Hell, maybe a pair of CB 3.3s?

Yeah, I'm almost certain baseline monster called this right. I very much doubt he'd buy the shoes. Adidas would be over the moon to have him still wearing their shoes - it'd be the cheapest endorsement imaginable for a top player to wear your shoes because they prefer them and their clothing sponsor doesn't make performance shoes.

Cost to Adidas: a couple of dozen pairs of custom coloured shoes
Benefit to Adidas: everyone seeing him wearing them

I presume that no pro player use brand new shoes every match. A shoe is not like a restringing of a frame, a shoe must be broken in and worn a couple of days before being used in action. Imagine the blsiterproblems they would get with constant new shoes..

Concerning the breaking in part, I'd assume that this is part of the answer.
Their shoes are so much customised, and exactly fitted to their feet that they probably dont need as much breaking in as a normal retail shoe.

Actually, he does have the idea of what he's talking about, and most of what he said is correct - Novak can wear any shoes at a match. He has NO deal with Adidas.
I am sure that Adidas likes free advertisement and would not charge him for the shoes, however, this is just a speculation.
