Yeah, afraid so now.

Even when top 8 qualify, there are always two alternates that make the trip over. However I have heard somewhere that Del Potro said to Argentina media that he wouldn't go to London as an alternate.

How it stands.

Once we get an updated 'qualifications cut' number, then this table should make more sense.

Delpo is never going to reach his potential, he will always be fighting injuries. He is to tall and dorky, his type of build is not meant for the atp tour.

Not happy to hear this news but it at least explains his play in his last loss.

I guess it'll be some time before he gets his game together then.

It depends. Delpo's desire to rise to the absolute top of the men's game is kind of like telling a boy to do his homework.

For Delpo, the season is over for him. He's got roughly 12 weeks from here till the Australian Open to do how he pleases, obviously he has to rest this injury a little but if he really has the burning desire to get right back to the top then he has to pencil in some sorta training bootcamp over the winter to get extra fit, healthy and to prepare his 2012 assault back to the top.

If he just takes on a 'Verdasco the fiasco' attitude of taking a bit of a backseat and expecting good thing to come to him, then it's just not gonna happen.

He reached his potential when he won the USO. It's just that some people for some reason think that he's got more to offer than top 15 with the occasional streaky good form to beat the best players.

He doesn't.

Delpo was never gonna make ATP Finals guys....he doesn't want to, otherwise he would have played Toyko, Shanghai, etc.

He's just preparing for DC, if he gets completely healthy by then.

The very best and most dominant players in the world are usually 6'2" and under if we're talking talent AND longevity.

+1, yes, I'm sure he would have played it, but he wasn't going to kill himself to do it. I'm sure if you'd have said to him at the beginning of the year, at the end you will be #10, he'd have said great. If he remains healthy he should continue his rise up the ranks next year.

Question ATP Top 20 as of Nov. 14, 2011

Is there any chance Juan Martin could win enough points in december davis cup to rise one more level to No. 10?

Yeah, I know ... don't be greedy, right? ... but does anybody know?

I believe if he wins his matches he could pull ahead of Almagro, assuming Almagro doesn't play/win, but I'm not positive.

You know, I think it depends more than I'd like on how Mardy and Tomas continue to perform as well. I think once you get to a certain point, hovering around Top Ten and above, it's as much about your opponents' performance against you and others at that level as it is about your own.

Delpo has a ton of points to gain at the AO, since he was in a tough position there last year. I think he'll make the WTF again next year. He should however be selfish at this point in his career. Little chance of them beating Spain, so just skip it citing injury.

Don't want to worry you, as an obvious fan, but meteors never rise, they just crash and burn.
