This guy is probably the ONLY LEGITIMATE challenger to Djokovic in the longer term.

Luv the way that sounds!
in fact, that's an excellent goal for delPotro, since he's behind in their H2H
beat him on the davis cup indoor hard, but djoker retired w/ back injury? shoulder injury?

anyway ... tomorrow w/b an exciting test of your theory ... first roger, then novak!

There is no indication that Del Potro's term is going to be long.

He has the MOST upside among ALL top players. He is also the youngest.

Who else will challenge Djokovic?

Nadal: Beaten like a drum by Djokovic. On course to lose 10 consecutive matches and 4 consecutive slam finals. Might be the worst beatdowns in tennis history for a #2 player.

Fed: Lost 4 times out 5 last year. Lacks in clutch these days. Will get worse with time, as he gets older. NO HOPE against Djokovic in the longer term.

Murray: Mentally weak. Always loses to Djokovic in big matches. Technical problems with forehand and second serve. SLAMLESS still --- huge hump for the Scott.

So yeah, unless someone like Tomic, Raonic or a knew guy steps up big time, Juan Martin Delpo is the ONLY HOPE for those who want to see some REAL battles at the top and not a one-man domination for the next 3-4 years.

IMO if JMDP can remain injury free, he would likely win a slam this year and more slams next year. He probably will be #2 or #1 starting next year. In any case, he is the only legitimate threat to Djokovic as I said previously..

This is also true.

A couple of nations are trying to stop Iran not because anyone sincerely believes they will commit a nuclear suicide the next day they have a bomb, but in order to stop nuclear proliferation, to prevernt open violation of the non-proliferation treaty that Iran signed (and received nuclear knowledge/assistance on those grounds), and to weaken Iran's position in diplomatic negotiations.

This is what I mean. He appears to be injury-prone. I won't be surprized if he goes through a series of injuries and flashy comebacks before finally checking out.

not suicide ... murder ... that's why Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described Israel as a "disgraceful blot" that should be "wiped off the face of the earth". @ http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/oct/27/israel.iran

IOW there's every indication that Del Potro's term is going to be long!

Recent history suggests the US will start any new wars.

That rhethoric is for internal consumption - to rallly the religious conservatives, and for external consumption - to create a bigger/scarier image too boost diplomatic weight. North Korea has been doing the same. Nobody is buying.

Most people are mature enough to understand that a hypothetical nuclear attack against a non-invading country is an immediate suicide, a failure of epic proportions. I am not even talking about the "3rd world war" because the world isn't going to take sides.

US was the country that invaded IRAK because there were massive destruction weapons and there were not even one of these??

ONTOPIC: Im also with the ones who think that DelPo is the main challenger for Djokovik long term. He has an amazing forehand, a delicious backhand (and I didnt taste it ), great mind to win in BIG matches.

He hasnt the consistency, but Djokovic, a year and a half ago also hadnt and now look at him!

Delpo has this tournament and four others lined up.

http://live-tennis.eu/playersSchedule

His game is rounding into form right now and expect a very good match against Fed tomorrow.

Whether he wins or loses against Fed doesn't matter as much as how satisfied he is about the progress being made.

With so many tournaments in a row he has a plan of getting his game finely tuned.

I expect him to bring his game up to the highest level he's had since his comeback in the following weeks.

pfffffft ... US also invaded Yugoslavia because of "genocide" that was nonexistent, K?

BUT this is just a tennis forum, so it's best to say "whatever" about the machinations of the multinational corporations of the New World Order, and instead take to heart the words of Matthew Henry that there are “None so blind as those that will not see.” ...

IOW ... predictions of Delpo's career's early demise are grossly exaggerated, Netspirit!

Del Potro's Meteoric Rise in the Rankings
I am confused. Meteorites usually fall down... I think? So it can't be much of a rise...

Then again, technically the lower you ranking number, the better you are, so I guess it kinda makes sense.

I knew there was a reason I liked you, FlamEnemy! you're absolutely correct that "meteoric" means "resembling a meteor in speed or in sudden and temporary brilliance <a meteoric rise to fame>" ... which of course applies to Delpo's jumping from somewhere around no. 484 at the start of 2011 ... to no. 11 by year's end ... no other player I know of has improved that much in one year since I've been following professional tennis in 2008 ... of course he's still improving, so the rise is still continuing ... and once he gets to the top five, I (unlike some naysayers I won't mention) am hoping he'll stay there for a good, long time ...

-----

K so ... Game On!!!
