Default Chicago 5.0 Men's Leauge

My apologies if this should be posted elsewhere, but I am new to the forum.

Ive recently moved to Chicago (Irving Park Area) from St. Louis and am looking for a 5.0 team to play with. I was told that there are not any 5.0 teams in the city and that I would have to look in the burbs.

Does anybody have any contacts or have any idea where to start? I played 5.0 league in St Louis but I knew everyone on the team from high school and college tennis. Here, not so much.

Thanks

There are 5.0 USTA leagues in the city and suburbs. You can see what leagues there usually are if you search on the USTA website.

I play 4.5, but my club also had a 5.0 team. We are in suburbs close to the city.

Really? The USTA lady that is in charge of my flex league told me there wasnt a 5.0 team in the city. Thanks for letting me know that. I'll play around with tennislink and see what i can find.

Thanks!

I'd suggest checking it out. as an added bonus it's pretty close to you as well. shouldn't have a problem finding guys of your level to play with there.

Good luck trying to find the "5.0 circle" in your area. Usually these groups are really small and sort of closed because the 5.0 population is very small in most areas.

You could always appeal down and play 4.5 to "get in". I'm sure you'll meet a handful of 5.0's that way if you cant find a group to play with.

You could also try finding a 9.0 as well to meet people.

If you are a legit 5.0, you are not going to have problems finding others at or close to your level to hit with. If you are a 4.0 who thinks you are a 5.0, then you will have major problems "breaking in" to the 5.0 circle.

Play some 5.0 and/or open tournaments. After each match ask your opponent where they play, etc.

Well, I am not a 4.0 that thinks I am a 5.0. The USTA computer rated me as a 5.0. I appealed to try and bring it down to a 4.5. I am the first one to scream from the rooftops that I should be 4.5. I played in a 5.0 league in St. Louis and held my own playing one and two doubles, but I was usually paired with a much better player than myself.

I did a quick USTA league search for men's 5.0 teams for the summer. It looks like there were four teams: two teams from River Trails, one team from Midtown - Palatine, and one from Oak Park Tennis Club. I would suggest calling one of these clubs. Oak Park is closest to the city. Hope this helps.

By that logic they should hold a welcoming party when a new brother shows up...

I'd go with the @Todd6060 suggestion and play some opens and meet people. Not a cheap way, but should work.
