Default Gosen OG Micro 16

This last reel of OG Micro 16 seems to be of lower quality than I've had in the past. The strands are coming "unbonded", and coming apart like a cheap multi. I don't know if it's just a bad reel or Gosen has cheapened the manufacturing of it. I bought a reel of Head Syn PPS and several sets of PSGD to use as my standard synthetic. I've noticed it mostly when I've used it in hybrids with a poly main. Any one else having this problem?

Hi Steve,

I love the Head PPS. I have had good results with the OG Micro 17..but have never used the 16G and have older reels of the 17G in stock. I am sure I do not string as much as you so I do not go thru as much. I like the Head PPS over the OG series since it has a bit more pop and seems to have a longer playability cycle than cheaper syn guts. It falls somewhere between OG and Forten Sweet. Seems to have the same construction as PSGD but plays better in IMHO.

Good luck..
Steve

Steve--Have you tried the Recoil? Did you think the PPS felt pretty similar? It's been a while since I've strung Recoil, but I seem to remember it being a lot like the PPS. If so, you're essentially getting a $20 Prince string for the price of a regular synthetic.

yeah i think you got a lesser quality reel. I had that same issue with one of my reel of Gosen OG 17. I have 2 reels of the 17 and one reel of the 16 and one of my reel of the 17 display that peeling affect after several hours of hitting. The other reel of 17 doesn't have that issue. I think I bought those two reels at different places, so one of those places I bought it from had a bad batch. The strings are still playable even thought the outer coating peels off.
