The other factor is, many sporting chains - who are the ticket to success in the sporting goods world - wont stock items unless they can see the range a year ahead, see evidence of an appropriate marketing plan in their market etc. Get any of those things wrong and you may have awesome production capabilities and sponsored players but they wont deal with you on a significant level.

Well, it probably is in Sergio Tacchini's owner's original hopes/plan to sell the company to a bigger company like Nike or Adidas. Will that happen? that's the chance he took for purchasing a bankrupting company in the first place. But, he was smart to sign Djokovic back in 2009.
But what I want to know is why the hell did Adidas drop him?? The guy has been in the top 5 the past 4 years or so. And he's he's been improving each year. Stupid move by Adidas, but obviously they're trying to court him back by giving him free shoes. And like somebody pointed out, Adidas is the big winner for supplying him shoes that consumers want to buy especially now that he's on a roll. Djokovic should actually demand that Adidas pay him to wear their shoes, imo. It would be nice to see him in Nike gear, but that remains to be seen. |

They will be already, there is little doubt about that. People of his calibre simply don't do stuff for free shoes - their management wouldn't work them if they wouldn't take sage advice on stuff like that.

ST distribution is ridicolous, u find a shirt in a city center shop sold to 60 euros and just behind the corner u find a ST Outlet shop sale same shirt at 20 Euros !! Ridicolous, i have a friend own a sport shop that is totally pissed off with ST.
They even selling now the archives shirt, yes the shirt that were abandoned in the warehouse since 80's and left in the ST museum in Biella.... remember the Mac line ? Yes that ones ! I bought one, quite old but the cotton is still nice and the design is fantastic. It is sad that a company so nice is finishing so miserably... |

That Archer shirt was fuego. c'mon folks, that was the late 80-90's style. Besides, I remember Sampras tearing up the USO in that shirt!

The new line of ST has increased in price by about 25%. The Joker collection (shorts and polo for Aus Open) will each retail for $110.00.

^WTF?!!!!! Charging $110 each for a polo and a short. No wonder ST is failing.

I've never understood the appeal of Under Armour. Their stuff seems to be pretty much the same as everyone else makes. What's so special or great about it? I don't get it.

WORD! Nike, closely followed by adidas will fairly soon have a stronghold on all major sporting apparels and equipment. Babolat may have a shot at getting into the U.S.. With all the people that buy Babolat racquets there should be a good number of them (especially juniors) who will want to wear Babolat clothes. You never see anyone wearing UA voluntarily... Maybe if UA had a better design behind their Tennis Apparels they would have more of a shot at making the market but the truth is their stuff is just way too bland.
They're much bigger here near Maryland on the east coast because if my memory serves me they were started by a Univ. of MD grad. I don't really get the whole point of their stuff, it's basically Nike -10% quality. There's some stuff that they do do better than everyone else, for example compression apparels but their wristbands are terrible, their shirts don't fit correctly for tennis and it's very easy to sweat through a pair of UA shorts. |

I think UA is doing very, very well. They've signed multiple college teams and are really moving into basketball and golf. As with most companies, tennis doesn't seem to be a huge $$ maker, so they're not devoting much time and effort to the sport.

The quality is excellent, much better at wicking moisture away than the Nike gear I own (we routinel play in 40+ Celcius + 70% humidity at times), the design is excellent, the pricing reasonable and marks you out from all the Fed / Raf wanabees out there. I still wear Nike footwear, because nothing in the UA range even comes close, but in textile terms, i cannot find anything wrong with it. |
