Not with that setup.

I have with gut/b5e, and it made for a slight increase in spin and a slightly tighter feeling string bed.

Oh, and for the record I have been slowly dropping my tension. Right now I'm at full power poly at 45/43 and it feels fine.

I think a slow drop is the way to go, but I would expect that is nearing the limit, especially if you want to incorporate gut back in at some point.

Unless I get some kind of sponsorship, gut is going to be too expensive to use.

I figured...You just blow right through it! How long would it have to last to be worth it for you? Also, how has not using it affected your game?

I'd say 10 hours as a cross.

It was an adjustment at first. I'm used to full poly now, but I would still love to go back to a hybrid if I could afford it. The problem is that no matter how soft or powerful, no full bed of poly has that same feel of a hybrid. I had a little slump at first, but I'm picking it back up again.

And you tried string savers and some of the more coated gut, i.e. Performaxx? Also, you prefer poly/gut to gut/poly for durability and the way it feels, right?

It wouldn't matter much. Tough gut lasts maybe another hour compared to classic. It just would help much.

Definitely prefer poly/gut.

Ah, I see. Well I'm glad you've adjusted to the full poly. How did you decide on the poly you did?

I got a 40% off discount on mantis strings. It just plays really well in all areas.

Nice. How long's it lasting now, compared to at a higher tension? Have you noticed any significant changes as you've been dropping tension or just better longevity?

I get much more feel, more spin, and a slightly loopier trajectory.

It lasts about the same amount of time, maybe an hour more.

Cool, cool. Thanks for the info! I assume that you do have to consciously go for more spin though to keep it from going long though, right--it provides and requires more spin?

Not really. It wasn't really much of an adjustment. I definitely have to be aware that it won't be a flat trajectory, but as far as putting more spin on it, not really.

Just had a hit with MPP/Nvy.

First off, I missed hybrids so much.

Secondly, Nvy makes a great cross. I strung at 49/51 and it actually feels too tight for me. Funny how my preferences change.
