There are a few guys here over 50 that play legit 5.0 singles tennis.

Thanks for any help.
If you beat a legit 5.0 player 6-1 in a single set, it would be impossible to say what your NTRP would be other than 5.0 or higher.

What is your National ranking? According to the experienced player guidelines if you are ranked in the top 150 nationally in the boys 18s, you would be 5.5.

Ive been as high as 156 in the nation when I was a freshy. I haven't played in tournaments lately and I'm not rated now.

Definite 5.5 at a minimum then. If you have improved since those tourneys maybe higher.

I've picked up some pace on my serve and groundies, and I move better now that I run alot more. I'd say I'm a little more consistent as well. Nothing too drastic other than I'm way fitter and stronger than I was.

Why not play a few tournaments at 5.0 with much younger players and see where you're really at?
Or, better yet, play Open tourneys to gauge yourself.

NTRP gets pretty fuzzy after 4.5, honestly. 5.0 tourneys don't get many participants. You're either an Open player or you're not.

BTW, I played a self described 5.0 the other day in his 30's and I won, but that doesn't make me anywhere near a 5.0.

Without playing more than 1 set against a 50 + yr old 5.0 I would say going with the 5.5 is premature.

But heck, with self-rate who really cares or would know anyway. It's just a number. Call yourself a 7.0 and go with it.

I played a few highly ranked state juniors in Florida when I was 15-18 years old in tournaments. Never got a game off any of them and I was probably a 4.5 in high school. I have to think those guys were at the 5.5 level.
