Here in NC, men's USTA doubles is always on Sunday.
Why can't we have these matches on Saturdays like ALTA in Atlanta? Sunday afternoon is a bit of a downer. We play our matches at 3pm. By the time I get home, it's time to round-up dinner and pack my bag for the upcoming business trip(s). I left feedback for the USTA on the email survey recently. Does everyone in other states have USTA matches on sunday too? I remember it being this way in Atlanta ( due to ALTA).

Here in Georgia the USTA summer season is on Sundays at 4:30. Of course living in the south that is the hottest time of the day for the summer and one of the reasons why I normally don't play USTA in the summer. We play the winter season on Saturdays at 9 or 10 AM. This is when our team mostly plays, but we have played the summer before too. I agree that the summer should be moved to Saturday's too, since I think ALTA is only running in the spring and the fall, so it would fall in nicely.

We've had Mens league matches on almost every night of the week (West GA, not Atlanta league). I think it depends on the coordinator.
Our summer Atlanta league matches were on Sunday @ 3pm though.

I would highly prefer Sunday afternoons. Our matches are all weeknights and it is harder to for people to get to because of work and traffic. Plus I prefer daylight to lights at night as I can generally see a lot better.

Here, PA district matches are on Saturdays, NJ district matches are on Sundays, Eastern Section NJ matches are Thursday evening, and DE district are scheduled randomly on any given day/night.

If by USTA Doubles you mean a Fall Combo League, many places in the South have Combo on Sunday (or a weekday night) because of college football on Saturday.

Here in Norcal, the home captain decides what day/time the match is. On weeknights, the start time must be between 6pm and 8pm (only applies to first shift so second shift may start like 10pm!) and weekend matches must have a start time between 9am and 6pm.

League match days are decided by the local league coordinator. If you don't like the match day, give some input to your local coordinator. The LC should be able to tell you why that day was chosen. If men's matches are on Sunday, perhaps the women's league matches are on Saturdays and court availability doesn't allow both leagues to play on the same day. There could be a lot of reasons why Sunday afternoons were chosen.

I would personally love it if men's league times in my area were on sundays. Other than missing the afternoon football games during NFL season that would be ideal. One of the reasons I don't play USTA league is because all of the leagues here play weekdays at 6pm. Even if I leave the office right at 5, with normal traffic it's cutting it real close. If traffic is particularly bad then there's no way I'm getting there in time (captains are pretty strict about starting on time around here and aren't shy about penalizing the opponents).

For some reason most of the leagues I'm on are always having matches on sunday. For USTA it's home team's choice...but sometimes that's on Sunday too. It's actually kind of annoying not having any matches during the week in the evenings (when I like to play) and then having three back to back to back on sunday.

Our USTA singles league is Tues night here.
I did email the local coordinator to see what the rationale was behind scheduling Sundays. I miss ALTA!!!!!

USTA is not always on Sunday in NC - depends on your league. In the Lake Norman and Metro (Charlotte) leagues, most of the flights play on week nights or Sat mornings...

Most of the guys on my team also stopped wanting to play during the summer due to the 4:30PM start time. I can't imagine this past summer, it must have been 95 out every Sunday afternoon...
I never understood the 9:30 Saturday start in the winter versus 4:30 Sunday in the summer. |

In Dallas area which weekend day you play depends on the level (3.5, 4.0, 4.5 etc). One season it will be on Saturday and then the next season on Sunday. This makes it nice for people such as myself who play at two levels.
I think for most people its not that big a deal thanks to inventions such as Tivo and DVRs. In general more people seem to have problems playing on Sunday afternoons rather than Saturdays.

Our team runs into the issue of guys' kids' soccer games conflicting with tennis matches. My conflict is playing so late on Sundays and rushing into the evening.
I emailed the coordinator. She said tennis tourneys are the major conflict with having leagues play on Saturdays. More courts are needed on Sat vs Sun. If I get bumped to 4.5 or "play up", I'll be facing a 4:30 Sunday start time. That just won't work for me. Maybe I need to consider dropping USTA league and focus on tourneys only?? (Whining over)
