Is anyone from TT playing, or spectating, at the Georgia USTA Combo finals this weekend in Dalton?
I am not playing, but will be a first-time volunteer on Sunday morning at the courts at Lakeshore. Any info on what to expect? |

A few friends from my ALTA team and others are playing 8.5, and we have a couple WGTA teams in other brackets.. I'm not playing though.
I've not been to a tourney in Dalton, so no clue what it's like up there.

Nah ... but my 6.5 team won SC states and are heading to Alabama for sectionals in March. Maybe we can see you there

Congrats on your win. I just moved back to Georgia from SC in July. I am having trouble finding people to hit with and thought volunteering at the State Combo Finals might allow me to meet some potential hitting partners.

I work in Dalton and have a bunch of friends playing at various levels and a bunch playing in Rome next weekend also.
If you are in the Dalton area, hollar at me and i'll introduce you to some folks to hit with. I live down in Cartersville, but know people in Dalton, Calhoun, Rome, etc to hit with. Joey

I'm playing but honestly I don't have any idea what to expect. This will be my first time playing at a championship as it will for most if not all of my team members. Most of us began playing within the last year and a half.

State tournament is no joke. EVERYONE there playing is at the top of their level or already bumped for next year.
We've gone with seemingly solid teams, and not made it out of our bracket.

We went 9-0 in league play but I know it won't be easy by any means.
My team is playing at Lakeshore on Sunday morning, maybe we will see you out there. |

Great! I will be the only male volunteer at Lakeshore on Sunday morning so be sure to stop by and say hello if you can. Good Luck!
Don't forget the time change on Sunday morning. According to the USTA official who was at the Captain's and Volunteer's meeting yesterday, "Penalties begin if they are even 1 minute late, no exceptions!" John |

My 8.5 team won last year in Rome. The competition will be pretty good, but they've bumped so many good 4.0s to 4.5, I don't think there will be many crazy 4.0s ringers in 7.5 and 8.5. |

We are only a 5.5 team and there was only one other team in the tournament. We went up to Lakeshore to play and the opposing team never showed up so we won the state championship by default. Not exactly the way that I wanted to win it but it is not our fault that they didn't show. Now it's on to the sectionals in Mobile, AL on March 3rd.

Well I was there Friday and Saturday and witness probably one of the biggest chokes/combacks in the history of the Ga State. I was watching Rockdale(atlanta) play some team and it was 1 1. Rockdale's 3rd team was down a set and 5-1 30-0 and came back and won the set and the tiebreak something like 10 4....of course that push them into the playoffs for Sunday and they ended up winning the State on Sunday. I know some of the women on that team and they do play with a lot of heart. Congrats ladies and good luck in the Sectionals.
