Cool Kudos for Novak for Not Retiring

Didn't see the Kei/Nov match, but seeing the score makes me think that Novak was ailing in the third. Good for him for realizing how absurd it would look to the casual observer it he would have retired in three out of his four losses for the year. When Nads wins the DC with Spain and then the WTF, he's going to have some good form going into 2012. Vamos!!

He couldn't retire like he could the other two times because there's no time off b/w tournys now. He would have to skip something if he had retired.

I'm kidding, btw. I didn't watch the match and have no idea who played how. Congrats to Nishikori for doing what only Murray, Federer, and Del Potro have done this year.

Yea, he does get kudos, but he really couldn't lose that way again, he'd have gotten horrible press for it. He's very rusty, and looks tentative, only going after it once in a while. Not sure, if he just wanted to get his feet wet and recover a bit more. He hasn't looked very good at all. He's had flashes of his year, but that's all. He's looked more like Novak 1.0, but I will give him credit for not retiring as well as not throwing any temper tantrums with yelling or throwing his racket around. I didn't see a man looking to win during the tournament.

We'll see how much he improves during Paris next week. Personally, based on his play this week, I wouldn't see him winning.

He wasn't ailing, in fact in between the 2nd and 3rd, Kei got his foot taped or retaped. Kei looked more fragile than Novak actually. Novak simply looked like he didn't care after going 0-3 in the 3rd set. Novak is definitely rusty and tentative in my book right now.

Yes it is. And, we'll see how well Novak has worked the rust off after next week. The WTF this year doesn't look like it's going to have anyone really come in on a roll. Murray could be injured, Nadal is wiped out, Novak is rusty, and Fed is not quite as rusty as Novak. I see Fed winning WTF.

Davis Cup may be decided between Federer and Murray. The rest have packed it in it seems.

Neither Fed or Murray are in DC, it's Spain and Argentina. Did you mean WTF? Murray may be injured, he pulled out of Basal, and may be hurt. I'm guessing WTF is between Fed and Fed at this point.

Hmmm, I have to say that Federer has a chance to finish the year strongly with the other top 3 guys being exhausted. He could win Basel, Paris and the WTF. Of course even if he finishes the year strongly and in great form, it's completely meaningless going into the AO. 2012 will be a whole different thing as everybody will be ready to go.

I agree with this. Although, I'm not sure about Paris, but I'd definitely see him in the final. Folks are exhausted, it's clear to see. Of course, there's a few guys that are getting their feet wet again after injury like Berdych, who I see as a wildcard. I think Nadal would love to win WTF, but cares about winning DC more. Spain already has a court picked out for him.

Djokovic never should have played Nadal at the US Open.

I don't even get the context of this post? Why shouldn't Djokovic have played?

The writing is on the wall. I think a lot of people thought the same early in the 4th set of the US Open final. The result masked it, but the effects of 'outlasting' Nadal are plain to see.

Quite frankly, if Djokovic was dead in the water, why didn't Nadal win? I'm a huge Nadal fan, and facts are facts. Nadal won 2010, Djokovic won 2011.

I will say, Djokovic was blessed with his 2011 draw and the times that he played, not in the heat, but he won and it's history. And that really has no place in this post, it's a deflection and redirection of what the main post was about. Not sure what you're issue is to bring it up. Go post in a Nadal post instead of bringing him into a Basal post.

Oh sorry, I thought this thread was about Djokovic being injured. All I'm saying is, Nadal broke Djokovic, long-term.

Novak could have retired against Rafa at the US Open and still would have won.

Please just let the incorrect posting of one person here about Nadal to die, this post is about Basal, where Nadal isn't a factor.

Rommil will always take a cheap shot at Nadal with every opportunity. Get on with the program.
