Default Federer-Nadal WTF Finals RR 2011

I know this thread comes early but still, the Fedal match-up is the most anticipated one in men's tennis even though the final score is predictable at times. Here, however, Fed has his biggest chance to take down Rafa. Thoughts?

I wonder if Federer can get into the double digits of the win column in his H2H against Nadal like Djokovic has.

I think Federer will win this in 3 sets. He always has a tough time against Nadal and I don't expect it to be different. Fed will win though because he has been playing so well and Nadal hasn't.

Hey guys sorry if this is in the wrong thread!

But I have two tickets for the Monday afternoon session at the O2 it was a present for my parents but they cannot make it now.

The seats are very good it is lower tier and 5th row from the front for the Murray v Ferrer!

I am happy to sell it at face value and will even go a bit less if I have to but would not like them to go to waste!

Please reply or DM me if interested!

Federer in 2. Can't see Nadal doing much damage on his worst surface after a long lay-off against possibly the best player ever (though past his prime) who's played excellent tennis of late on a surface he still rules.

Nadal in two. Nadal is still in his prime, Federer is aging. The fact that he's still so good is a true testimony to his legendary status, but he never likes to play Nadal.

You're right that he still rules indoor hard. In 2010 and 2011 he's 28-1 on the surface, his only loss coming to Gael Monfils in Paris last year. I hadn't realized he was so dominant indoors!

By comparison, he went 31-1 on indoor hard between 2004 and 2006. Seems like he's pretty much still at his best on the surface!

How is this the most anticipated matchup?

Topspin moonballer relentlessly abusing Fed's backhand point after point, serve after serve. Nothing new, nothing exciting.

Federer (and everybody else) abuses Nadal's backhand just as much. Nobody wants Nadal on the opposite side of the court hitting forehands. Thanks, but no thanks.

Assuming it's the same surface as last year, the lower bounce will subdue the backhand abuse enough for Federer to be able to cope. It's when he's hitting backhand after backhand from shoulder height or higher that he struggles.

I pick Nadal, as always, but hopefully Fed plays well enough.

Why wouldn't Fed be? The conditions indoors are so much better. He doesn't have to deal with the elements, or poor lighting.

And Nadal is the ultimate elements player. Hard courts are his worst surface and indoors only makes it worse.

I saw based on what I've seen from Fed the past 2 tournaments and the fact that Nadal hasn't played, I'm going with Fed in 2.

Indoor conditions do not make it worse for Nadal. They are just better for his opponents - shotmakers, who do not possess his footwork, or safety margin given by his topspin. Only indoors, with the true bounce of HC, absense of wind and sun, do they get the opportunity to swing away and paint the lines with higher percentages.

This is why Federer normally wins and Nadal normally loses.

End of season seems to be good for Roger. He is in a good rush, he buolt his momentum. I think the outcome of this match will also dependbon how he will play against Tsonga.
He is now a a good level of confidence, all he has to do is to keep his head straight and repeat the Berdych execution in london.
