Default beach resort with tennis in FL?

hey All

We are planning to go to florida for a week during christmas

any ideas for a beach resort that will also have tennis? I want to squeeze in a couple of days of tennis lessons/drills during the week with a good pro

the wife doesnt play tennis, so need a place near the beach and also other stuff to do

thanks

What area of FL. are you heading? NW, SW, SE, or NE? Longboat Key Club, Tops'l, Ponte Vedra Inn, Boca Raton resort, Saddlebrook, Naples Grande.

All great. (Saddlebrook is pretty far from the beach but it is heaven all its own).

Longboat Key is the name of a town, not a resort. Maybe you are thinking of The Colony at Longboat Key ?

Indeed I was. I played a Jr. Tournament there as a kid.

Loved that place.

Longboat Key Club is indeed the name of a resort featuring tennis on Longboat Key, and is still open. The other major resort on Longboat Key, called the Colony, did close. Longboat Key is the name of the island and the resort on the island bears the name Longboat Key Club.

I thought the Colony had reopened, after resolving the financial issue with the condo owners there. Nice beach there, plenty of clay courts, good pros, rooms are all suites with kitchens.

You may be thinking about when it closed the first time in 2008. It the reopened in 2009. Closed for good August 2010. Some rumblings about reopening by the condo owners running it, but I believe it remains closed as of this time.

It was pretty hammered as the dispute was about who pays for maintenance.

Club Med Sandpiper in Port St Lucie ( near Jupiter and north of Palm Beach) has a great all inclusive plan and tonnes of tennis. They revamped the facility last year and have a decent Tennis Academy now and a strong Tennis program. With all of the activities offered and a pretty good location the price is right. Main issue I always had was it was not "on the beach" it has a beach on the intercostal and like 4 pools. Check it out on the clubmed.com site.

Stay with my inlaws in Lake Worth; about 10 perfectly maintained Har-Tru courts in their complex. Do you like your tuna salad with or without celery?

I recommend the haute tuna salad with beluga caviar on the side instead of the celery

sweet, yes, overpriced, indeed.
I would suggest to stay at some decent condo in Boca and play at any of 300 courts available for $5-6/hr...
