Kind of. I don't want to devalue what he accomplished. But MOST of his fights were over fairly quickly since no one understood submission defense at the time. He won the first UFC fighting for less than 5 minutes total and probably didn't break much of a sweat. It wasn't until UFC 4 that he started to get really pushed. Now THAT was an accomplishment. But if you've ever seen the fights from that night, they're actually pretty awful.

I guess my point is that it would just be impossible to fight like that in the modern MMA game, and that while Royce Gracie impressively did it, it wasn't even the same sport at that time.

UFC 151 is off! Jones wouldn't fight Sonnen (even though he'd been training and Sonnen hadn't). Dana White is p*ssed! Allegedly Jones will fight Machida in Sept in Toronto.

Wow, no UFC for another month? Not good.

Dana White did look pretty upset, understandably so.

I have a huge case of mixed emotions. Jones should have fought - Sonnen hadn't been training and was moving up a class while Jones was in camp. But Hendo was probably going to fight a different style - so Jones was preparing for a different fight.

And if DW had to cancel the whole show, that's an admission he failed at his job - putting a good show together. And by giving Jones the Sept. fight, DW has shown that the top stars really run the show and can call their shots.

I never quite got why people didn't like Jones, he seems like a nice guy. Now I get it, I find myself not liking him very much after this. He listened to his weirdo trainer and did not take the fight. He was already training for an olympic caliber wrestler in Henderson and would have fought a guy who is a middleweight and perhaps not in shape. I am sure the UFC said, "If you don't fight, we will have to cancel the event." So he is letting down fans who had event tickets, plane tickets(nonrefundable), the organization, etc. Boo-urns Jones!

All true, on such short notice I don't think Dana White could of won either way. I think Sonnen and Jones would be worthy of a main event, so can understand why he wanted that to take place. Jones obviously was expecting to fight someone else, so last minute changes to a title defence aren't great.

As you say, the top stars probably do call the shots and maybe letting him choose his opponent would be too far, but you can argue giving him the choice of turning it down is pandering to his needs too.

Ultimately it's the fans who lose out anyway, it will be a gap of around 6 weeks since 150 I think? That's pretty big.

UFC will make up for the apparent drought with 4 events in 4 weeks starting with UFC 152 9/22.

True! One of which is in the UK, the card is pretty uninspiring, but it will be great to have one here again.

Can only see Bellator in our area until the UFC or Strikeforce visits C-Bus for the Arnold Weekend. Arnold weekend in March is bigger and better than Xmas.

Is Jones scared he couldnt beat Sonnen? He should destroy that guy. Take the fight and get paid. I dont understand how he does not take that fight. I dont see how Sonnen gets past the 2nd round. Hes got zero striking and Jones should be able to stuff takedowns against a much smaller guy.

The only neg is that there simply wasnt enough time for Sonnen to go into full trash talk mode.

Maybe Sonnen just rubs Jones the wrong way

I heard Sonnen say he was willing to give Jones all the money from the fight, you never really know when he's been serious though

There was a good interview with Sonnen on Bleacher Report, he was saying Jones is effectively a bully in choosing who he wants to fight.

Ya right: http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/8/23...wn-a-mma-fight

Also, Machida turns down the fight, Shogun turns down the fight, and Vitor Belfort, another 185'er steps up. I guess since Sonnen lost his last fight and Vitor won his, he's in.

I'm just disgusted with everyone. They make me sick. Dan Henderson training too hard, Jon Jones being a big whiny crybaby goon, Dana White being a hysterical incompetent schmuck; it all makes me want to puke in my cheerios. What a giant cluster**** of incredible proportions! Get it together people! I'm fat, lazy, and way too useless to find something productive to do with myself and I want to be entertained!

I'm so mad I could curl up on the ground right now and hold my breath until I turn blue and pass out and then hopefully go into convulsions to seriously alarm any random people that happen to witness my display of uncontrollable disgustedness.

I don't know Jones and Sonnen very well, but it may have been a wise decision on the part of Jones to refuse the fight.

If he trained for months analyzing Henderson's moves and prepping specifically to attack, defend, counter-attack Henderson, then it would be foolish to turn to another fighter and hope the same strategy would work.

True, Jones was in fighting shape and Sonnen was most likely not. But it is still a risk to accept a fight one has not taken the proper prep for.

Some good fighters have taken up fights hastily, thinking it would be a walkover, only to come out a loser.

I'd of loved to of seen Sonnen and Jones. I don't think Sonnen could of gone 5 rounds, on 8 days notice, moving up in weight. Jones would of walked it probably.

If he does earn a shot in the future and gets a proper training camp in, it would be alot more even. I can't imagine Jones would fancy 25 minute of double leg takedown attempts.

Yeah, alot on twitter were saying things along those lines. You have to feel for them, the flights, hotels, preparation etc.. it all adds up.

Do you think Silva really did offer to fight? I think he might of saw Sonnen did and chimed in at the last minute

Too bad Dana didn't offer to fight. Still should, as angry as he is at Jones.
