Just noticed this thread. Cool. I like MMA, though I liked it better in the beginning when it was more brutal.
I have great respect for the athletes who do this. Maybe the ultimate sport re strength, conditioning, mental toughness. Of course there's boxing and real wrestling. Tough choice, but if you're going to have a violent sport where the object is to physically hurt or incapacitate the opponent ... then MMA. Watched many of the earlier TUF episodes. Very entertaining. My current favorite guy in MMA is George St. Pierre. No surprise there, eh? The thing is, I have to think that he must be a lot stronger than he looks.

I wonder if Silva - Sonnen (non-title at 205) was ever considered? Sonnen was doing pretty well before he tripped on the silly spinning punch and got G&P'd out. I would watch them fight again. Guessing Silva didn't want to risk it - because if Sonnen did beat him then they'd have to go down to 185 and do it again.

I would say Silva is done with Sonnen. Sonnens best change at getting back at Silva would be to pummel his boy Machida, and then maybe Lil Nog.
I guess Sonnen is still going to fight Forrest though. Forrest is huge for 205 so we will see what Sonnen can do. But Sonnen does train with guys who have historically not had a problem going against bigger guys. Couture and Hendo obviously have titles at multiple weight classes

If Sonnen can't beat washed up Forrest, he should retire. Younger and faster with great wrestling. Unless Forrest got a lucky timed punch or knee in I assume there would be a whole lot of Sonnen on top beating his face in. If A Silva couldn't avoid the takedowns, Forrest certainly couldn't.

But I agree Sonnen should win and I think he will. But the size of forrest is a resonable one. Chale might gas quicker than usual and get subbed liek hes known for from time to time.

I've been a huge MMA fan since UFC 1! I'm super happy about it's incredible growth during the last few years, but I must say, I've reached overload at this point. I haven't watch a live PPV in probably at least 2 years. Besides being really expensive, there are just too many cards for me now. Probably the only fight I'd pay for now would be GSP-Spider, Spider-Bones Jones, or Rousey-Cyborg (!). Seriously, I'd love to see Rousey take Cyborg's arm home!

+1. He was a Vegas cop before UFC - beating up handcuffed guys, drunks, and the homeless. But channeling his anger in the octagon against guys his own size and getting his share of beatings - and losing his manhood against A Silva, seems to have humanized him.

I guess I'm out of the loop, but is there a possible bout between Forrest and Chael? I really think Chael should focus on beating top guys in his own weight class for a potential long-term rematch against Silva. I'm getting tired of these "freak" matches just to pit 2 "names" against each other. FWIW, I think Forrest can beat Chael easily.
Lastly, you've got some good points WCA. Forrest definitely doesn't seem to be the same fighter he was 5 years ago. I believe Forrest was a police officer in Georgia, though he might have also served in Vegas too. I know he's trained quite a bit there.

He worked with a Georgia sheriffs department and was gonna become a security guard at the local jails before he made it. Also losing to A.Silva does not equal losing ones manhood. The guy is the best fighter in MMA right now. I will agree that he has taking some brutal beatings even in fights he wins. He seems to enjoy pain or not mind it. If you read his book which is a really good read he is a weird man that does things involving pain that just baffles me.

Chael fought Forrest in 2003. Forrest won via triangle Rematch is supposed to be in December.

Ah, thanks for the update hollywood. Didn't know they were actually scheduled already, and I certainly didn't know they had already fought.

Losing didn't; running out of the octagon crying like a 12 yr old did cause a revocation of his man card.

Ya, a former LHW UFC champ lost to a much lighter fighter basically by a retreating jab. That was a strange scene. As much as I dislike the guy, Anderson Silva is clearly the Fed of MMA. He's just so fluid, and you simply cannot deny the ridiculous results he's had. I like GSP more, but the Spider finishes fights much better.

Any thoughts on the passing of Jeff Blatnick? Remember him in the early days of the UFC as an announcer. Believe he also judged bouts.

Did anyone see the Cung Le - Ace Franklin fight? Wow! That's how to throw a counter right.
