im in the southern section and about to transition.
Just how much better is the average player in the 16s vs the 14s. thank you!(: |

I would think a lot better, but I didn't play very many tournaments when I was 14 to compare. There's a lot of growing and maturing during that 14-16 gap, kinda the difference between boy and man kind of thing. Kids will be a lot bigger, to be sure.

I have no direct experience with these tournaments, but I'll opine anyway.
My guess is that the players are a lot better because a fair number have basically become men by the time they are 16, and are not growing as quickly anymore. A lot of tall guys become awkward and slow during their growth spurt and then regain strength and coordination as they approach 16-20. There should be a lot more 6' tall plus guys with big serves in the 16 year old group than in the 14 year old group. |

I've heard they hit a lot harder. That's why some 14s play in 16s to get a feel for the pace.

It is the largest jump in age groups in my experience. The boys at the top of the 10s, 12s, 14s may or may not be for real. But there is no doubt in the 16s. The top 5 16s are amazing. As others have said, its the time period of maturation, physical and mental. The top 16s have grown man games for the most part.
