Default February National OPen entry

Anyone know what the entry procedure is for the Feb National Opens. Doesn't look like they have the site preference option any more.. Is it now the same process as the Regional Segments with all the hassle of notifying TD's and then withdrawing from events etc..

Question

I do not have an answer to the original post but have another question about this Feb National open.

I just checked a few national open websites and looked under selection process. The selection process now appears like the one for Supernational/national closed, showing several sectional endorsement quotas!!.... Is this one of the new changes for national tournaments that emphasize on sectional endorsement??
Allowed quotas of endorsement from all sections do add up a lot more than a draw size of 32. It does not make sense to me.

I always thought that National Open uses national standings for selection.
Hope it was a software error.

Would appreciate if anyone can clarify this.

Don't you love an organization, the USTA, that makes all kinds of changes,

but forgets there is an audience that uses them....

And forgets they might need to tell us.

Everyone thinks I am joking, but it is almost as if the USTA is really the Russian Tennis Federation trying to ruin US tennis.

Think about it.

REDUCED DRAW SIZES NOW, AND THE WAIT LISTS ARE INCREDIBLE......

WAIT UNTIL THE SUPER NATS ARE 64!!!!!!!

CAN YOU IMAGINE THE WAIT LISTS THEN.

HOW, HOW, HOW DO YOU GROW A SPORT WHEN YOU WON'T LET ANYONE PLAY IT?????????????????

OH, EXCEPT FOR THE FEW THE USTA KIDS WHO GET WILD CARDS.

WANT TO MAKE IT FAIR, TAKE AWAY THE WILD CARDS, AND THEIR PLAYERS WON'T GET IN.

I totally agree with you. I heard one of the the proposals at the meeting last weekend was that they wanted even more wildcards. They abuse the whole concept of wildcards. A player should only be allowed to get one wildcard into one tournament a year, ITF or USTA. If you are not good enough to do it on your own with that then you need to work your way through the system like everybody else has to do.

Making the tournaments smaller isn't the answer. The biggest problem with the National Championships is that they only play one round in the main draw per day. In order to get there, unless you are in the HP program, you have had to play 2 or 3 singles and doubles a day in National Opens. Why would they make it easier at the National Championship level?

The USTA says one thing and then does another. They tell everybody that they are doing all of this to reduce missed school days. Then they make the ITF tournaments worth more by making all of the other tournaments worth less. In order to play ITF tournaments you have to miss more days of school or be homeschooled.

Seems like they are going back to the 80s in a way.

I called and just spoke with the tournament director of one National Open site. He looked at his website and thought the selection process lists under that tab was incorrect. He did not know why it published that way. According to his tournament director's manuel, selection criteria is still like before, using national standings and allowing 4 from younger age group, if standings in top 200 in younger age group.

He kinda mentioned 2014 national open might go away depending on voting this coming March. Couldn't give me the answer about a procedure to apply to more than one National Open sites that the original poster of the thread asked.

So, just following up on this.

ARe we applying to 4 again?

Is the format for this like a regional tournament now, where we have to ask permission? Pretty confusing.

Yes, it is like a Regional now.

Rather than take a good system like the National Open had where the computer did almost everything, they took a bad system and are making it terrible on the tournament directors. I have talked to 6 tournament directors who have all ran the Regionals and all 6 said it was a mess. Then they are wondering why they are having problems finding clubs that want to run them.

Actually it was just a technical error that was corrected today. As of now, you can go on and apply to up to 4 sites and rank your preferences, just like it has been in the past.
