Default Young American Deep in Aussie Junior Main Draw

Wow, amazed that this is not being discussed in this section. Mackenzie McDonald in semis despite have to go througt the qualifier. Hardebeck and Townsend still in the mix. Good job...let's bring something home!

Krista H., good junior player, but not pro material.

Another top American junior going to college.

Yeah the 06 04 comeback shows a lot about him and his ability to come back and how much heart he has.

He is lucky that the draw opened up after the overrated Pavlasek upset Uchida.

He seems like a great kid, I saw him playing a few years back and was very impressed and then this year in high school championships where he just came of a severe illness of some sort and was only strong enough to play doubles. Very friendly and teammates seemed to love him and competitors as well. The kid has serious game.Nice to have Wayne Ferriera as personal coach.

Gabrielle Andrews and Taylor Townsend won the Junior Doubles title and Taylor Townsend is in the finals. Taylor is 15 years old, was trained by Donald Young's parents in Atlanta and is now with the USTA in Boca Raton, FL. I've never seen her play but I always hear about her fearlessness at the net. That is something that will set her apart from most of the young girls/women that she will compete against in her future.

Just caught the end of the Townsend final...unfortunately didn't get to see much of the match...just the last few games of the final set. Townsend won in a 3 setter. Townsend served very well and seemed to play smart...changed up the pace of her ground strokes which seem to throw off her opponent. Not much good to say about her opponent...seemed to be a bit of a brat in the brief time I saw her. Banging her racquet after losing her serve...then doing a repeated smash up at her chair after losing the final game. I was almost surprised she shook hands, but she did.

Taylor's amazing. Two years ago, she was still playing local Georgia tournaments.

I was able to watch the last few games of the 2nd set and all of the third. Taylor's opponent was a first class brat. In the second set which she won, she let out the most obnoxious "C'mons" that were accompanied not only with fist pumps but jumping up and down. I'd never seen that before. But Taylor's net game was what won her that match. She won the overwhelming number of points when she came to the net. She was very comfortable there and her opponent couldn't pass her at all. When she tried to lob Taylor, it was an easy smash for her. Taylor's net game, I believe, is what will set her apart from the other girls. They don't see that game when they train or play against each other. Taylor could stand to get in better shape though. She's only 15 so that should not be a problem. Her future looks great.

Good on Taylor. I really wish Tennis Channel would show the finals. They'd be interesting. Do they seriously think tennis fans (lord knows no one else watches TC) wouldn't be interested?

Ausopen.org had a video-clip highlight of the junior finals, but showed only match point for the girls.

Great for Taylor. Great for USTA. Great for American tennis. This marks 3 big wins for Americans in recent junior slams. And don't forget, all 4 boys semi-finalists at Les Petits As represent Team USA.

Looks like there is some history between the two.

I was watching the match online and couldn't tell who was making all of the noise, but it was really loud. I assumed it was someone in the stands.
