Finished 64 and would have easily got into the indoor national tournament. But for some reason we are not in the field. Disappointing. It would have been nice to go to a location and at least attempt to qualify.

That's odd. What's going on with the Clemson program right now? Do they need a change in the coaching position?

One more year for McCuen. I think a change for this year would hurt next year. There is a lot of potential next year, with everyone returning save Moran who was a doubles player and we are adding Ansari and maybe one more. After next year there should be a change, unless the team does amazingly well.

Chip Cox playing the Belton tournament again. Guy lives in the juniors.

He's playing the closed. Although he's a junior at South Carolina I heard he started college as a 16 yr. old. Maybe the big picture for him is one more run at Kalamzoo. Which is fine. That said I still feel like a player of his caliber should be playing Futures and high level Opens.

Would he be the clear cut favorite to win the closed? If not, I don't see the big deal with him competing at a level where others can still beat him.

Yea, if you're an 18 year old college junior playing top 4 singles on a top 75 ranked SEC tennis team, why push yourself in the summer? Other things are more important then improving your tennis game over the summer. Like playing in a Closed tournament and cake walking through your first 3-5 matches (depending on your ranking). Hey, at least he's playing tennis in the summer. Some college tennis players don't even play over the summer.

Well, the first 3-5 matches are usually cakewalks for the top 8 seeds anyway...looks like he went out in the quarters last year and then semis of consolations. If he had won it last year, I think he'd be wasting his time. But since he didn't...and since I'm sure there are some players in the draw who will either push him or are capable of beating him, I don't see a problem with him playing in it.

It's cool he's playing. He's fun to watch. Funny thing about Southern's is there's no clear cut favorite to win the closed. Lots of top players though.

Clemson Tiger:

I see there's a number of tennis resorts and academies on the South Carolina coast. That being the case, I would think that USC and Clemson would be able to pull some of the top juniors who train at these places. Is that not the case?

Any word on Connor Clements? Ranked #21 by Tennis Recruiting Network. I've read that he's down to two choices; South Carolina and Illinois. #1 South Carolina guy so maybe you guys know more about what's going on with him.

Conner is going to a NAIA school for his first year, doesn't have the grades from what I heard. Should go to South Carolina after that.

There are a lot of juniors from that area. But as of yet I have not seen that many that are major confernce quality come out of that area. Wes Moran is one who went to Clemson. Of course Harrison Richmond is another. Recently Clemson has done a better job of locking down the state talent that South Carolina. The Gamecocks will not get anyone of of the upstate which has recently produced Rigsby,Harrington and Hilsman. But the lowstate is a battle between the two schools.

I think the academies down on the coast should be producing more players actually.

Wait, so Clemson is upgrading its tennis facility? I've seen the addition of the balcony/watching area.

What are the details of the future additions/changes?

I am visiting Clemson and South Carolina in about a week. Are there any restraunts or anything I need to check out while I'm down there?

The plan is to completely redo the center and add better locker rooms. Also their is a plan to add an indoor facility that would have 6 courts and be a big improvement over the current one.
