I don't see that the video was sped up. Even in the 90's they were hitting hard and running fast. Either of those two guys could play today and do well.

Yeah, you are right. There was nothing particularly amazing about that get.

The video is sped up a little because the guy who uploaded it really distorted the aspect ratio. Here is the same point I was talking about in a video that has not been badly distorted.

So yeah, nothing special about that get by Sampras. I do not know what I was smoking that night 6 months ago.

sampras was an incredible natural athlete

i think he doesn't get enough praise for it because his game was so smooth and natural

when he was in control on a grass court or hard court, he beat his opponents effortlessly

he honestly did not look like he had to try or put much effort in

of course, he worked harder than anyone on the tour that time, except maybe muster

there's no question that sampras would adapt to any era, be it the 60s or the 00s

I've never seen Sampras play as well as he did in the OP's video, just smoking any shot near him.

I think just how good Sampras was is lost on alot of people on this site, or, people have forgotten just how good he was. He had his share of losses but when he turned it on, he turned it on.

His athleticism in his prime years was something to behold.

Very true.

Once his slam count was surpassed by Federer, some think Fed does everything better and thus Sampras gets consigned to the "dust bin of history."

"Long live the new king."

In the very 1st video the image is stretched. It is not sped up. The mercedes logo on the net is a slight oval because the video has been stretched to fill up the youtube video.
It makes Sampras look like hes running faster and makes everyone look a little beefier and chunkier. Any other youtube videos from of tennis from 1990s in widescreen may also be stretched.

Old thread, I know. However, I wanted to share that video with you guys.

The first point is another great example of Sampras's speed on court.
This video is better its not stretched. Instead the person cut the top and bottom off of the video so that it completely fits the wide screen. No stretching no distortion.

Not true. Nobody thinks Federer has better serve or volley than Sampras. Even the hardcore Fed fan still admits that Sampras has better serve and volley.

I really did not think the footspeed was very impressive at all, but the shot that Sampras came up with on the dead run was amazing.
