Default keeping racquet head square FH

Im using SW.. Sometimes when I want to kill a ball, I get too excited, swing too hard, and open the racquet head slightly which causes the ball to go long..

Will a full Western grip prevent this since it's pretty hard to open up the racquet with this grip?

No - grips dont help poor technique. Whenever someone chooses a grip it is because they want the advantages the new grip gives them and that it compliments their game vs. the grip they are currently using.

Never switch a grip because you have a technical flaw in your swing and the way you approach the ball thinking it is going to solve your problem of overhitting. Switching around like this can be very detrimental to your game and you will be a tennis wanderer - instead of a tennis wonder.

The racquet weighs about 6 times heavier then the ball. You should always strive for a stroke that allows the racquet to do the work - smooth, relaxed, and efficient. Whenever a tennis player over compensates for their strokes by adding muscle, inevitably you are on a course to doom your game.

Shot selection, placement, and control are the three combos it takes to win matches. Use power when you need to and when it is appropriate. But power isnt swinging wildly at the ball, it is an efficient transfer of energy while keeping in control of the swing.

When you get excited you're probably recruiting more muscles then you need to. Since your body is not used to swinging this hard on a continuous basis, it compensates and makes adjusting movments for the sudden change in swing dynamics.

It is very likely that the final part of the kenetic chain is adjusting the racquet head without you knowing it and placing it facing upward just as you hit the ball.
