Angry Price Increase for Wilson BLX Pro Open back to $149 ???

So the BLX Pro Open frame is no longer produced, and the price had dropped from $179, to $149 to $129 in recent months as the new 2012 Pro Open was imminent.

The new 2012 Pro Opens is released selling at $159 , and TW increases the price on the older BLX Pro Opens from what had been at $129 for a month or longer back up to $149.

1) Why the price increase on a discontinued frame ?

2) Any words from Wilson that the 2012 Pro Open (with the increased stiffness) missed the mark just like the BLX Pro Tour?

3) Any chance you drop the price on the BLX Pro Opens back down to $129 in the near future? Ready to order more and the price jumps up $20 a frame.

Not sure this happens very often, but it sucks for those of us of love the older model and wanted to buy more. lol

Thanks

Supply and demand is a two-way street. I can lend you the 20 bucks.

According to the TWU database they're two different racuqets in key specs.

Might be TWU data errors but they might be more different than a paint job.

ollinger, i fully understand supply and demand.

Let me rephrase the questions:

1) Why is Wilson selling a new 2012 BLX at $159 instead of $179? It seems to me new products sell at a premium, but Wilson set the opening price pretty low IMO.

2) Is this Wilson simply pushing the new Juice and Steam frames coupled with the knowledge that the older BLX Pro Open was great frame, and maybe the new 2012 frame isn't all that?

The price was lowered to match a competitor, but had to be put back as it is a racquet on Wilson's MAP.

Apologies.

Spencer, TW.

Thanks for the reply Spencer. No apologies needed at all.

Wilson's price points on the 2012 at $159, and the old ones at $149 just seems strange.

You should probably read the response as: "You can still price match it if another retailer is selling for cheaper..."

who played with both, it's really different racquets, or just PJ?

I own the older BLX versions, and hit with the new one. It felt the same to me.

Maybe it is different, but I could not feel it. Both are seriously ugly.

I am going to strip the paint off my old ones in a weeks and paint them solid black. I am tired of that ugly paintjob.

Wilson needs to fire the folks in charge of the paintjob design. The Steam and Juice have the worse pjs I have ever seen by one company.

Oh that isn't the problem.

It is looking at the frames when I restring them. It is now automatic to inspect any frame for cracks, and when you string a lot of frames, and notice that your frame is always the ugliest girl at the dance, it is time for some make-up and lipstick.

Been right here.

I bought three of mine used and only one new one. But $80 is a great buy on one. My first three are getting a lot of use and abuse. I am going to paint them solid black and install new grommets in a few weeks when I get a some time to work on them.
