My vote would probably go to the Y-man... El Aynaoui has to be on of the fittest, most athletic on tour.

I would say Hewitt, if we are just talking about pure athleticism. He is very quick around the court, and he can hit some great shots on the run, which I would attribute to some amazing natural athletic ability. Also, his parents are very good athletes and I have heard he is a good aussie rules football player.

Schuettler has a good set of wheels and is highly rated in this area - same could not be said of his game this year however. Can't count out Dad either, Agassi's mountain regime etc all very well known.

Gotta add Henman to this list, even though I dislike him. In the issue of DEUCE 2 years ago with the painting of Andre, Todd Martin had to take one asset from any player for any shot. (ie Coria's speed, Hewitt's heart, Sampras' serve, Agassi's return) For athleticism, he choose Henman in a nutshell. Now, I'm not saying he's right, but obviously he knows a thing or to more about the guys on tour than us. Roddick might be up there as well, I know he can dunk.

The McEnroes always refer to Safin as the best athlete in tennis. And that was before he embarked on his serious conditioning programme. And no vitriolic McEnroe comments please LOL

Is coordination considered an aspect of athleticism? Just the best athlete is kind of ambiguous.

Safin is the best athlete to have played pro tennis IMO.

I totally agree with votes for Henman, Safin and Hewitt for overall athleticism. Fed has the best footwork, if that counts.

Pete Sampras (ret.) doesn't belong on this list. Replace him with Rainer Scheuttler, who's a very, very fit man.

Pete Sampras is superhumanly flexible though, does that count toward athleticism?

Certainly Coria and Henman but I also think that Grosjean moves very well.

if anybody thinks samps isnt a great athlete they're off their noodle....the great athletes make it look easy just like pete did. anyone try and imitate that slam dunk overhead of his and hit it that hard, jump that high, etc.? i would love it if some of the really great athletes from other sports would get into the game. they would be the all courters and maybe there would be less grinders..Ed

That was supposed to be my vote for Federer. Has anyone seen him dribble the ball between his legs with the racket? How the hell does he do that?
