Default Do umpires deserve a prize?

I saw the IW women's final umpire being presented with an expensive watch.

Do umpires deserve this?

Well, economics is a matter of demand and supply.

Why not give prizes to the ball-persons and linespeople and the water guy and the security guards too?

if they call the nadal out for time violation and other cheating stuff, a little bonus wouldn't be unappropriate.

Ball kids, linespeople & security guards are a dime a dozen, not so much for umpires I imagine.

The umpire in the Isner/Nalbandian match deserved half of Isner's paycheque.

well said sureshs -- people who have to move a great deal should be compensated handsomely. By this analysis, you and your colleagues in science, sitting at a laptop and barely moving, do not warrant compensation? Dopey thread; it's not an appealing trait that you moan when someone else receives a gift. It really shouldn't bother you so much. At what age were you weaned?

A good pair of glasses or maybe binoculars would be appropriate

That was a hint/permission to start calling top players for time violations.
