Amazing what can be said while a match is rolling along. Mac has credit for quite a few.
At the end of the first set, US Open Final, '84, as his lob drifts long, he looks at a bald linesman and offers loudly, "Grow some hair." Laughing, Newk shakes his head, "He misses a lob and takes it out on the linesman." Sommeral (sp) adds, "John, I guarantee he would if he could." Any other great lines from the competitors that have us shaking our heads or chuckling away...? |

How about "worst lines in the heat of competition"
Lleyton Hewitt at the US Open when he compares the color of skin of his opponent to that of the line judge that just dealt him an unfavorable call. |

I guess 'this is what they want, this is what they pay for' is the most famous one. Blake actually repeated it in '05 vs Agassi.

During the 1975 Wimbledon final as Ashe is taking Connors to the cleaners:
Man in crowd: C'mon Jimmy! Connors: I'm trying, for Christ's sake. |

The greatest line I've ever heard in sports was from Randall "Tex" Cobb after a fight in which he was outclassed and so badly beaten by Larry Holmes it caused Howard Cosell to quit commentating boxing. He called Holmes "the most uncooperative man I've ever worked with."

When asked by Jim Rome if he thought Jeff Tarango was a cheater, Agassi replied, Let's put it this way Jim...if professional tennis was played without linesmen, Jeff Tarango would be # 1 in the world!"
A great one-liner from Andre who, as a teenager, was described by Ivan Lendl as "nothing more than a haircut and a forehand". |

Jeff Tarango:
"Shut up" - To the crowd "You are the most corrupt official in the game and you can't do that" - to Bruno Rebeuh "No way, THAT'S IT!" - to Bruno Rebeuh as he walks off court During Tarango's 1995 Wimbledon match against Alexander Mronz. I laugh out loud just thinking about it |

What was it that Serena said on match point for the championship at the US Open to the line judge who called a foot fault on her, Something like, "I'll kill you and/or I'd like to stuff this ball down your throat" ? Wasn't pretty for sure, though in fairness, what an asinine call.

"Nobody asked him to come to the net"
"Call me Mr Nastase, Mister Nastase" "Next time I´ll bring in my 2 years old kid who is better raised than you"

My favorite is Jim Courier telling some guy in in the French Open crowd "Don't read your newspaper when I'm playing" ...en francais. (I know it's on You Tube but I can't find it, argh!)
Johnny Mac said once about Cyclops - "I'm not paranoid ... but that machine knows who I am!" |

Yes, wasn't it Nastase who was up to his usual/unusual antics and was being called a "S.O.B." by his opponent. Nasty appealed to the umpire that his opponent must refer to him as "Mr. S.O.B."...

Remember when Jim Rome baited Jim
Evert and kept calling him Chrissy Evert? Then Jim Evert throws the table on Jim Rome and kicks his a**.
