Okay we've beat the McEnroe one to death.
And I think the consensus is quite clear. But what about with Bjorn. The fact is he has played a LOT less over the last 25 years(then Johnny Mac). I mean, it's not really even comparable. And if Borg would win...What about a 5.5 or dare I say 6.0

Wasn't there a thread on here a while ago about Borg casually thrashing some high ranking Division 1 college player... with ease? I think you might find it if you look. It's really shocking how little some people understand about the kind of tennis skill it takes to be #1 in the world.
Maybe if Borg had two artificial hips, an artificial knee, an artificial right shoulder, and was in his late 60s, a 5.0 could take him. Maybe. And he's not there yet. Here's the thread: http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showt...t=borg+harvard

How about the OP vs a 10 year old to see which one could post this in the correct forum.

This thread is in the wrong section. It should either be in Former Pro Player Discussion, or the trash can.

I'd like to weigh in here. Just to give you an example, we have a former pro in Austin, TX - Tony Dawson who had a career high ranking of 234 back in 1975. He is now in his 60s and recently played a 4.5 USTA tournament for kicks, and thrashed everyone.
Now keep in mind this is a guy who has not even cracked the top 200 at his peak, and who is now in his 60s, and yet he still thrashed all 4.5 players he played in that tournament. Which makes me think he could hang in there with 5.0s as well. http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/P...ny-Dawson.aspx So based on that logic, why would Borg, an all-time great and former #1, and in his 50s , not be able to totally dismantle a 5.0 ?

Oh no!!
Don't you old, deluded, nostalgia-blinded farts get it: the game has evolved so much in terms of power, athleticism, diet, coaching, strokes, equipment, and a vast world-pool of talented players that a present 5.0 is equivalent to the world's no. 1 player of the 70s or 80s in their prime. Borg would have no chance--he would be triple-bageled by a present 5.0. The game has evolved that much! This is why present, bored, aging, uninterested Papa Fed using a wooden racquet and gut strings and no time to get used to them would thrash anyone who ever played at their absolute peaks.

Keep 'em coming Qubax:
BJ King versus 1.5 Martina versus a 2.0 Tilden versus a 2.5 Sedgman versus a 3.0 Rosewall versus a 3.5 Laver versus a 4.0 Newcombe versus a 4.5

The tennis game was so primitive back then, they didn't even have gluten.

Where did Qubax go with all those brilliant comparisons?

I kinda like these threads, something wrong with me
my teaching pro is 72, former touring pro, very old school S + V. (hard to find a coach like him in this modern game, I love him to death) dosent even backhand these days, absolutely killer slice though with exact placement. a few of us are 5.0's. he would always beat us down 6-2 or 6-3. he would just low slice or dead flat forehand our heavy top spin shot to one corner, then the other corner and hes already into the net. i dont need to tell you guys how good he is at the net. so, Borg will still crush 5.0 or 5.5. 6.0 hhhmmmmm probably be a hard win to Borg, LOL |

Depends on what kind of 6.0, if he is a 6.0 college player I think Borg could handle him easily but if you talking a 6.0 playing futures or challengers, who is training and playing tennis everyday, I think that would be a good match to see. But why would Borg play a match like that to embarass himself. I always think threads like these should be renamed from if 5.0 could beat Borg to How many games could a 5.0 win off Borg? or even maybe How Many points a 4.5 could win off Borg?

I think it is very inconsiderate of these former legends to not play recreational USTA league tennis. And furthermore there should be a Borg, etc. column within the USTA guide for self rating.
