Nope. Johnson also did it.

I don't see what the problem is. This happens in literally every single sport and its a non issue.

Looks like announcers did not bolt after all
"One of the best finals I've ever seen" . Great to bad nobody at home could see it. |

Last time Steve Johnson lost a dual match was March 17, 2010 vs Henrique Cunha.

I disagree. In sports like football, basketball and soccer the referees do not put up with the kind of abuse that some tennis players are now doing whenever something does not go their way. It needs to be stamped out.

Good point. If a player goes up to a ref in basketball and abuses them for a minute with "are you blind" "Thats terrible" It's a sure technical.

I thought it was pretty obvious I was only listing repeat winners. 8 teams have won. I only listed 4. If you wanna get into the details, then Trinity was the 8th team.
I've also only seen Steve Johnson play twice, and I wouldn't say he did anything unethical or bad by rules standards. But he was very whiny, and he sure didn't carry himself like a champion on a 65 match winning streak.

I have to say Quiroz has some sick doubles talent. There aren't many guys that play ATP doubles that can hit the topspin lob better than him.

Colette Lewis @zootennis
RT @BenRothenberg:Wow MT @TuckerJohns: Michael Shabaz clearly didn't learn anything in last yr's semi. Ejected this yr as fan for heckling I'll never doubt you again.

1) #1 Steve Johnson (USC) def. #4 Jarmere Jenkins (UVA) - 6-3, 6-2
(2) #25 Ray Sarmiento (USC) def. #39 Alex Domijan (UVA) - 6-4, 7-5 (3) #2 Mitchell Frank (UVA) def. #21 Daniel Nguyen (USC) - 6-3, 6-2 (4) #57 Emilio Gomez (USC) def. Drew Courtney (UVA) - 6-4, 6-2 (5) #51 Yannick Hanfmann (USC) def. #82 Justin Shane (UVA) -- 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (6) Roberto Quiroz (USC) vs. Julen Uriguen (UVA) - 2-6, 7-6 (3), 3-4 susp. I wouldn't have predicted this outcome at all after the doubles and rain delay ,then moving to indoors... USC players have little experience with indoor tennis ,where as UVA do a lot of indoors.. Sarmiento,Gomez,Hanfmann, and Quiroz have been struggling lately.. it looks like they put their game into a higher gear .. a great coach can motivate this kind of results.. hats off to Peter Smith in getting the maximum effort from his players at the best time possible... |

Which would you rather have? A NCAA Second Place Trophy? Or a NCAA Final Four Trophy? For some reason, I'd rather have my trophy say Final Four rather than Second Place. Weird.

Yeah its kinda like how bronze medalists are often happier about their effort than silver medalists.

Hey experienced ones out there - how do you think Georgia did as hosts? I know facilities are great per the players, but this indoor thing and rain (which they obviously can't control) but should they have planned better? No video at all was very disappointing. No sound on video feed was not good either. Is this standard for sites where weather is an issue, or are their sites better equipped for plan B? Just curious about past track records....

If there had been all day rain, there was a provisional plan to bus the players about 50 miles to Norcross to play at a larger indoor facility. The rain came late in the afternoon, a bit unexpectedly, so that wasn't really possible. As far as not having camera's indoors, it's just not that feasible if you've ever been inside. I mean, it could be done, but you wouldn't have been pleased with the angles. I do think the outdoor webcams could have been better, but the system was already in place, and I'm not sure how much "better" they could have been without becoming too much for computers to stream easily. I would hope that's upgraded next time they host though, because I know the current system has been there for at least 3 years and is probably getting outdated.

I think it's a bit smaller. Not sure though.
