...his most notable matches are when he LOST. Think about it. 2008 Wimby final. 2010 and 2011 USO SF. These matches were notable because Fed lost, and these matches just also happen to be his opponents' greatest wins. Why because he is the GOAT. As they say, the bigger you are the harder you fall, and his falls have been very loud because no one has stood higher atop the tennis pedestal of greatness.

Anyway, am sure I'm going to get flamed for this. Just felt the urge. Usually my posts are much more analytical... =)

i kinda agree. especially on the way they both lost their wimbledon crow.

federer lost it in one of the best matches in history, if not the best, coming back from behind.

nadal lost it rather easilly.

Same applies to every top ranked player in history. Rios for example.

Most of the guys who beat Rios would say it was their greatest win.

I mean most players who beat Rios didn't beat Sampras/Agassi. So obviously they are going to be proud of beating World Number One Marcelo Rios, and call it their best win.

To add, his 2009 AO loss was Nadal's greatest win on hc. Nalbandian's greatest win was in 2005 Master Cup, who was 2 points away from losing. Del Potro's greatest triumph was in 2009 USO. And who can forget Safin 2005 AO, who survive a match point. All of these matches stretch to the limit(5 sets), became a classic. When Roger wins, he's rewriting history, and when he loses, the match becomes memorable, and the biggest win by his opponent. Either way, tennis win.

It is noteworthy to mention 2006 Rome final was a great match. Too bad they took away the 5 sets format for the Master Series final.

Glad I have some support here =). I'm not worried about Roger's legacy at all tbh. Even if Djokovic dominates for 3 years or whatever it's clear that Roger blazed the trail and all anyone could do after him was emulate him. Would be nice to see him do two things before he retires (win another Wimby and beat Nadal and Djokovic in GS finals). That would be icing on the cake.

But how many of Rio's matches have been called greatest of all time?

Oh, thats right.

None of them. Whereas Fed has several ridiculous matches to his credit, AO 2005, Wimby 2007 and 2008, last year's USO semi, etc. etc.

Borg had one in 1980 Wimbledon final(considered the great match of all time). Sampras in 2001 Wimbledon. Mac in 1984 FO final.

Borg lost the greatest TB in majors history in the '80 Wimby final but won the match 8-6 in the fifth.
