My recommendation would be to schedule a lesson with a respected instructor at your local club and ask his/her advice. Once they've seen you hit and talked to you about how you'd like to develop, they can point you to some racquets that would work well.

I suspect that your relative newness to the game will put you at a disadvantage trying to describe what you need in a forum, which is why an in-person consultation will probably be much more helpful.

I've hit with the Surge. It's among the lighter and stiffer frames out there, which didn't work well for my technique. Because the Surge is light (and head-light) with relatively high power, it's easy to pivot around with the wrist, which can be a bad habit to develop.

The Surge is a fine enough racket. I hit with it briefly, and played for a year with a Dunlop 500, which has very similar specs. How the Surge works for you will depend on your game, so you should post details of your age, size, relative strength, etc.

The Surge is actually not so much an ideal racket for beginners-to-intermediate players as it is a stick for experienced players; it works well for players without much strength but fast swings, that can take advantage of the light swingweight to put pace and spin on the ball.

If your swing isn't all that fast, you'll be better off with a jack-of-all-trades racket like a Radical (MP or OS) or Wilson KTour, which is often the final stick of choice for many, many players...more mass in the frame to give you power and stability, solid control, etc.

Topspin is basically a function of your technique until you swing hard enough to take advantage of polyester strings.

If you are looking at a Wilson BLX Surge, please give the Volkl Organix 6 a try. I thought this was the best racquet in this weight/head size.

Seems waaay too light, you could go for the Wilson BLX Pro Open instead.

I already bought the rackets...hmmm...(could not demo)

But are light rackets always so bad? Why on earth do they come out then? Do light rackets not suit certain game types?
My current racket is very flexible, low power on serve, too heavy with lead...Is this all about plough through, or does flex and balance also matter? (of course it does, but just asking in relation to the specs of this particular racket)

To me flex as much as the tour, absorbs power....causing me to muscle some strokes instead of timing the ball.

It sounds more or less what i expected - but maybe it will suit my game.

A shot i used to be good at, was shorter angled groundstrokes, crosscourt or inside out...which needed accelleration to generate enough spin to land within the service line. A brushed shot so to speak. With the tour100 and speedport black, this kind of stroke has suffered. Back with the kblade98 and 03blue, i could hit this stroke well....not with the tour100 though. I am hoping i rekindle this stroke with the wilson surge as well as better power on the serves.
