TW says YONEX Vcore 98D is stiff. Is it?

but this racket only has 65 stiffnes, it isnt that much...

has anyone played with this racket? is it stiff?

TW says: A slight downside would be the stiffness, as a couple of playtesters noted slight soreness in both their elbows and shoulders during the playtest.

I'd say it feels stiff "in a good way", nice consistency, nice sweetspot, no soreness at all .

Well said. It is one of my favorite "modern" racquets, the one I play with on a daily basis.

I have. APD faster swing, more for wiper type topspin, VCORE more dampened, more control. Hope I had the best of both rackets. These two rackets are in my tennis bag right now APD with gut poly could do the trick but VCORE is very nice with full poly

How does the 98d's flex react with lead on the hoop?

Very intrigued with this frame, just need a higher swing weight and less head light balance. Why would they make an 11.3oz frame 6pts HL?

I demoed the racquet and thought it was a little stiff, worse, the racquet vibrates alot due to the fullerene in the head of the racquet. I just didn't like the feel at all.

^You sure it was the fullerene? Sounds odd. Could have been the dead strings in the demo, especially certain polys.

I'm telling you, the unique "yonex flex" is no where to be found with the new v cores. the good thing is the fullerene in the head or the racquet does add power and control, the downside is the racquets play stiffer. don't know if thats good or bad in your case, but trust me, demo the racquet before you buy it.

the VCore 98D is definitely on the stiff side. Too stiff or not would depend on the user? Only way to know for sure is to demo.
You could also string it with a soft multi to soften it up. Put poly in the 98D and you have a pretty stiff feeling combo.

Thanks for that Jack and newton, sounds like the 98d could be a 'harsh' type of stiff and not the 'solid' type. Have to be careful with my shoulder until august.

So, for those of you who have been using this racquet, any updates? With the relatively light weight, how does it hold up against hard-hit balls? Stable? How are the shoulders and elbows? Stiffness something that's really that noticeable after a while? Any other input after using this stick a while? Thanks in advance.

I use the v core 98d with a full bed of poly. Is less stiffer than the pure drive gt strung with full poly and after 10 hours of play I can't feel any problems even with my shoulder with what i had some problems a month ago. I will play with the full poly until it breaks , lose all the control or my elbow or shoulder starts to be sore. I just want to see how many hours I can play with a full bed of poly.

now my other racquet the babolat pure drive gt is strung with synthetic gut. the racquets play almost the same ( same balance 315 mm ) but you can notice the lower swingweight on the Yonex

The 98D is stiff, but did not hurt my arm like other stiff racquets. i had loads of people try it and most had an initial 'whoa' reaction. For all of us, it was our first experience with Yonex. The ball seemed to fly of the racquet, especially on flat 1hbh's. I wish it had a bit more feel, but it is one good stick.

I have a Yonex and the Vcores feel like that to me. I would check out the Xi line.

I've had both. Despite the specs, the 98D felt stiffer to me. In fact, I didn't like it at all from either a play or feel perspective and got rid of it pretty quickly.
