Well, yesterday I was riding my bike and I ended up ramming my bike in to a car.I as going at pretty high speed around 65kms(40 miles),way faster than I should be driving here.It was a busy lane, cars and bikes pouring from every corner. The impact was so great that my bike's shockers and handle got twisted.Thnx God i didn't get hurt only few bruises and a cut in my stomach.I was lucky in this regard as I didn't have a head on collision, the car was coming off another by-lane and I hit it's back seat door,booom..One of my friend sitting on the pillion also fell on the road.

Be careful next time! I hardly ever ride my bike on the same lanes as cars... I always use any footpath I could find, or take the longer path via parks or suburbs instead of using the main roads. The traffic is not that busy but the car drivers are mad around where I live.
Ps. I thought you were riding a bicycle, not a motorbike Last edited by 15_ounce : 10-24-2012 at 05:29 AM. |

You do wear a helmet or is it not mandatory in Lucknow? You have to be careful, people here drive like maniacs talking on their cellphones and trying to race their BMW's and other imports down tiny lanes. I drive like an old lady ...or ... uhmmm ... like Rafa

You were going 40mph on a bike, rammed into a car, and walked away OK?
I'd say you're damn lucky. How far did you fly off the bike?

I think by "bike" Tush means a 2-wheeler (moped or motorbike), not a bicycle.
I had an accident on a moped many years ago. The road was wet, and there was a couple coming on a scooter in the opposite direction. The scooter skidded, overturned on the road, and slid across the centerline, while the couple was thrown in the opposite direction. The sliding overturned scooter was coming straight at my leg, but I lifted it by reflex action, and it hit the lower part of my moped. If it had hit my leg, it would have been pulverized - scooters are heavy. |

Bah, humbug...
In 1973, and this was mentioned in CycleNews, Sept. edition, I was scrubbing in tires on RonGrant's RG-500 Suzuki for DunlopTires when the front flatted on the banking, me at over 170 mph. I managed two or 3 downshifts down to maybe 100 when the wobble threw me off to the inside, just coming out of the banking. Besides being yelled at by HarryHunt, I was fine. Ground Ron's helmet down past the liner on the chin. It was mentioned not only for the unique crash, but it started the requirement for stronger tire air inlet valve springs to resist the G force of higher speeds. In Europe, the tubes for racing motorcycles were much more advanced than what was imported to the US. There, in the big tracks like in Germany and France, the bikes were going over 170 since 1967. |

Glad you were not seriously hurt.
Bikes are not cars; learn the lesson. Use the sidewalk if possible. And don't ride on busy roads. You are just asking for trouble. I see these idiots riding on busy streets all the time and really have to wonder if they have a brain in their head. Especially the ones going the wrong way or who blow through stop signs and lights. As far as bicycles go, perhaps the people who ride one passenger per SUV, trashing the environment and congesting the city, are the real idiots. |

OK, Motorcycle not bicycle. Better, but still dangerous. My cousin bought the farm at age 24 on a motorcycle. Not a big fan. Maybe on an open road they are fine but in traffic, it is just a matter of time before you eat the pavement. |

I agree with cars over bikes, for transportation.
But sometimes, we can't appreciate the world unless we actually stop and smell the roses. It's a whole nuther world out there, biking around most of the time. And it's not that bad a world, believe it or not. You can choose to be consumed by big brother, the quest for material wealth, and going from A to B ASAP, but there IS an alternative, one that is not all that bad. Don't try it if you don't want to, it's better that world wasn't so crowded, anyways. |

When I was in Indonesia I used to ride a semi trail motorbike... never had accident with it which is amazing as the traffic there is ridiculously bad. I enjoy bicycle more now as I dont have to go far to any amenities and I love to exercise every so often... good for my tennis too. Last edited by 15_ounce : 10-24-2012 at 03:33 PM. |

Yo op: what kind of bike do you have?
I had a little accident 3 months ago: some A-hole cut the road I was crossing the street at 80-90 km/h, so I hade to break hard, no abs so I lost the front rear. In less than a second i was on the ground and my bike on the other side... Fortunatly I was wearing my dainese jacket with elbow and shoulder protections and also my gloves. Both were trashed in the accident, ripped by the ground impact and slide. I was in shock and wanted to kill the car driver... He said and he was probably right, that he didnt see me at all! But guess what? I just took the bike, went home, and had it repaired the next day. Bikers life... Man vs automobile

"he didnt see me at all!"
And that is always the problem, pretty much. Bikes have a very thin profile and if the light isn't that great, they just sort of blend into the background. It happens all the time. I once saw a bike and a car dueling on a highway. It was crazy ! I was expecting the biker to be killed. They both sped off at 100+ so I have no idea how it ended up.
