Pepperdine? You think someone would leave one of those 4 schools for Pepperdine?
No offense, but Florida has a better shot than Pepperdine. State school with less in state competition. Not that either are gonna get one from those four. |

Yea, matchplay, but one thing you're not considering is that any coach at one of those 4 programs will always be coaching in the shadow of the coaches who built the program.
If you go by his words, Boland will not leave Virginia for any school. He has stated publicly that he plans to coach at UVA for as long as the University will have him. And why not? Virginia first made the NCAA Tournament in 1997. The four great programs you mention had won national titles prior to Virginia's first berth in the tournament. The Virginia tennis coaching record book is just a portrait of Brian Boland. There are no words, just a picture of him. The man IS Virginia tennis. He would never be able to duplicate that at USC, UCLA, Stanford or UGA. |

If Boland is offered the job he will take it, u heard it here.....so will Tucker, Steinberg or any other top coach

I think only steinberg would take the florida job. Boland has no reason to leave UVa. He has developed an amazing program so he has no reason to bolt for Florida. It's an amazing opportunity and job but I think you are overestimating it.

Yeah, they should hire Hodge, they were so good while he was the assistant hopefully he can keep what they have going

I haven't been following Princeton all that closely although I know a graduating senior who was on the team. I have to think that all the Ivy league schools have the same obstacle to overcome, burnout. A freshman comes in full of energy and enthusiasm. Then the combination of class work, on and off court training and squeezing in a social life grinds down that energy and enthusiasm so that by the 4th year the player is more concerned about his school work or potential career then his results on court. I would think it would be tough for a coach when the upper class men are less interested in tennis then the freshmen.

As a life long Crimson Tide fan, I am thrilled Pate is gone. Most Bama fans expected him to be fired. His teams have consistently under achieved. His recruiting has also been inconsistent at best. I would love to have Hodge. He's a Georgia guy and that carries alot of weight with top recruits in the South. John Roddick would also be a good fit here. Dark horse candidate - John Browning from Emory.

Interesting. Pate was a friend of mine before he went to Notre Dame as an assistant. Good guy and a very good coach. I think he played at Mississippi State University. Coached against him while he was an NJCAA coach. He's the real deal.
I would imagine that recruiting players to Tuscaloosa Alabama might not be the easiest thing to do given all the other great division 1 choices. Has Alabama ever won a national championship? |
