The 2012 season finally gets under way today.
The Gators are ranked 8th in the team rankings. As for singles, we have a few that didn't qualify for the first singles rankings so it's going to be interesting to see how they do this year. Seniors: Nassim Slilam (was injured and did not get a ranking yet) Juniors: Frank Carleton (transfer from Wake Forest) Billy Federhofer Bob van Overbeek (#69) Sophomores: Michael Alford Andrew Butz (#102) Florent Diep Spencer Newman (#84) Stephane Piro Freshmen: Thomas Proisy Gordan Watson (No. 12 in the nation in the 2012 rankings) Doubles also looks pretty good this year: Federhofer/Slilam #4 van Overbeek/Butz #25 Carleton/Newman #41 Go Gators! |

Maybe Watson can come in and give you guys the spark you need since Bangoura is gone. I know Carleton is a good player, but you guys are gonna need him to not be a complete nut-case when he steps on court.
Honestly, I'm more interested in the outcome of the women's team. Good GOD!!!, I have never seen a hotter group of female tennis players. |

Never mind the men. Those gator women are dangerous this year. They will challenge again for the title. I have never seen such depth in either men or women's tennis in last 10 years. with one exception being stanford.

The men had a rough start today. The women are good but I'm more interested in how the men are going to do this year.

Not a great showing by the Gators this weekend. But it wasn't all bad either. Newman and Alford won their consolation brackets and van Overbeek and Butz made it to the semis in the main round. This team seems to have potential but they have a lot of work to do.
We start off the dual season with a bang by going to Waco to face the 5th-ranked Baylor Bears. Then the ITA Kick Off. Go Gators! |

The Gators are toast with marmalade this year. 5th or 6th best team in the SEC

Tough match for the Gators on Sunday. They'll face the 5th ranked Baylor Bears at Waco. The Gators don't have a clear No. this season so it will be interesting to see what kind of lineup is put out.
Go Gators! |

The No. 8 Gators (1-0) beat the No. 5 Bears 6-1 at Waco. Very impressive! We have a good doubles lineup and even though we are lacking a solid No. 1, our singles lineup is deep. I was a bit worried about this season but this was very encouraging!
Next up: Feb 28th, The ITA Kick Off Weekend at home against New Mexico. Winner of that plays Miami or Wake Forest for a ticket to the ITA Indoors. Go Gators! |

Oklahoma would whip Florida, yet they are 10 spots lower in the rankings. This will all get sorted out soon.

No. 5 Florida Gators are hosting the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Januaru 28th and 29th. After an encouraging win against then-No. 5 Baylor Bears at Waco, the Gators (1-0) have moved up to No. 5 in the rankings and will host No. 33 Miami, No. 41 Wake Forest, and No. 55 New Mexico.
No. 33 Miami (2-0) No singles players are ranked. No doubles teams are ranked. Miami lost a few seniors from last year so they are having to start a young lineup. Their ranking may be a bit too high right now. No. 41 Wake Forest (3-0) Singles: No. 115 Danny Kreyman No doubles teams are ranked. Florida's Carleton tranferred from Wake Forest this year. I'm sure he would prefer not to meet the Demon Deacons. With Miami so untested, there is a chance WF can score a minor upset and face the Gators and Carleton. No. 55 New Mexico (2-0) No singles players are ranked. Doubles: No. 16 Anderson/Phillips Florida should not have too much trouble with New Mexico and the winner of Miami/Wake Forest. Taking the doubles is a must for the Gators and then putting out a lineup that plays to their depth. The strategy worked against Baylor and that is what the Gators are going to have to do this year to have a chance in the SEC and NCAA. Their current ranking may be too high right now. They are probably more of a 10-12 team. If they get to the quarterfinals or semifinals of the ITA Nationals, that would be a great accomplishment for this year's Gators. Anything is possible unless they are going against the top 4 teams in the country. Schedule: Jan 28, Saturday, 10 am. vs New Mexico Jan 29, Sunday, 1 pm. vs Miami/Wake Forest Go Gators! |

I would favor Wake Forest over Miami. That really is a weak group of teams.

Most of the groups look weak. Two or three stand out but the rest are not that challenging for the top teams. The Georgia Tech group is the most interesting for me. |
