To be fair, Coke Zero tastes just like the real thing, but has no calories. You're from NY, do you think Bloomberg's legislation will have a special provision for diet beverages?

He should be going away soon. But I kind of like how he banned smoking to make people hang out in the street.

Xanax? Klonopin? Which is better? What if I get on the plane and freak out?

Flew a lot in the late 80s and 90s. One bad experience in 1998 and that was it. People praying, kids crying, I was crippled with fear and never want to feel that again.
OP, the best way to deal with flying is to sleep through it.

Get tired as hell, don't sleep for 40 hours if you have to so when you do get in the plane you can actually sleep through the whole flight. Tell your GF not to wake you up for whatever reason.

Works like a charm for me.

Hmm, it might have been more prudent to restrict shopkeepers from selling packs with more than 3 or 4 cigarettes. I will say this, I can't stand being exposed to secondhand beverage consumption.

Hey Tahoe Tennis, I am sure you can get through this. Here is another way of looking at it. Remember that Baz Luhrmann song that says that your real troubles in life will be things that have never crossed your mind.

I always think, when I'm flying, that the plane will definitely not crash because fate would rather have me sit that dreaded management accounting exam, or give that presentation in front of 50 people while having a bad hair day, or babysit my friend's really unruly kids. So usually it is the mundane things that will happen as they always do, rather than the against the odds crash!

Op, I used to do skydiving for many years but I'm afraid of heights. Explain that one. When I'm standing on a balcony of a high rise building, I feel very uneasy (scared) but being at 12000 feet sitting on a wheel of a helicopter (with the parachute of course) excites me.

Flight is tomorrow and i'm already having panic attacks. I don't want to fly and I don't want to crash. I'm terrified beyond rational thought. What should I do? My bags are packed and we're supposed to leave tomorrow. What if I get to the airport and can't board? or worse get on the plane and start freaking out? help!

You won't... You're gonna be fine. Just go get on the plane and remember to breath and you'll be just fine.

Hold on to your friend hand, take a deep breath, relax, close your eyes try to fall sleep, if you having paic attacks take some Xanax and you will be fine.
Hope everything go well, enjoy the fly and having a good time with your friend.

Technology has advanced so much since 1998. I took a 6 hour flight as an infant across the Atlantic and ever since then I have had no problems. You just kind of have to look at how it really is and try to forget what happened a long time ago.

Maybe talk to your GF about it, maybe contact a pyschiatrist, and bring some sleeping medicine on the plane.

When all else fails, sleep.

Nearly every airport has discovery flights, sometimes free for individuals interested in learning to fly. Try one, always fun riding shotgun on a prop plane. End that fear of flying. May create a fear of falling though.

I do know that it is irrational, and all the statistics, etc...of how safe flying really is...however

just thinking about it I feel myself starting to panic and have severe anxiety.

i really cant blame you, with all that TV shows about disasters and plane accidents, i really have the same problem as you (and i never even got into a plane!).

just dont think about it as something dangerous as you have more chance to die in a bus or a car accident than plane.

Probably people have in mind that in car accidents they can change something, but in a plane, you cant do nothing. But believe me its totally wrong assumption. You cant change nothing either way, if its gonna happen it will happen, so what can you do except live your life.

Maybe some psychiatrist could help you, i believe that a few appointment will help you a lot. Its not a big deal, a lot of people have the same problems.
