I've been having some arm problems and am planning to put a full set of gut in one of my racquets just to try it--haven't used it in many years.
Question: Have any of you KM owners had any particular difficulties with gut? I have access (though a bit of a hassle) to a Neos and could use that. However, I am quite confident on my machine and don't think I'd have trouble. Any experiences to share? I know about kinking. Also, I know to slow down and take it easy. Clamps adjusted carefully, etc. Anything else? |

I was apprehensive: one hears all kinds of things. But when I did it, it went very well, without a hitch (so to speak). Just don't let the stuff kink up, which is a general rule of thumb for dealing with the stuff. It's stretchy, so make the appropriate adjustment.
In my case, I strung my frame at the usual tension with the gut. But it's more powerful; in retrospect I wish I'd upped the tension 2-3 pounds or so. It's wonderful stuff; I need to buy a set.

I would be sure to clean the gripper jaws before stringing gut. |

Go easy on the knots. Here is a video by TT member "Drakulie" that is often linked: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpfwDvF3Buk

I did gut crosses (tonic 16/52 lbs/redondo c 93) on my klippermate a few months ago and had no problems.

Did the job last night and didn't really have any problems. The friction on the crosses really is an issue--bigger than I thought it would be. The only issue I had was on the final cross. The string got fairly twisted and wanted to kink pretty bad. Hope it didn't cause a really weak spot.
I hope I don't like these very much. They cost too much and a more of a pain than even poly to string. |

You know, the nice thing is that gut last so much longer. It's worth it; I should give it another shot (but I'm really liking my cheapo synthetic gut). You're right about the friction pulling the crosses; forgot about that.

Hit tonight with the gut. I might end up wishing I hadn't done this. It was very, very nice to hit with. Power and feel is really unmatchable, I think. Very buttery feeling.
