I am new to stringing. When I pull tension clamp the floating clamp right next to frame/mounts with my gamma x-2, then release tension the string lose tension. The clamp is super tight but their ends up being an 1/8 of an inch of room between the clamp and the frame/mounts. What am i doing wrong? As a result the strings are easily moveable with my fingers and a really poor string job compared to the local professional racquet stringer. Please help.

See:
http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=427767 See information about clamp settings and how to start your mains. The mains will move even with the desired tension. They become "locked" into place when you weave and tension the crosses under and over them. If you are doing it correctly, the clamps do not have to be "super tight" (as you put it). The lever shouldn't be hard to open or close. You certainly shouldn't be crushing your strings. Remember, pull tension, clamp, and then release tension.

sounds pretty normal to me.
check the clamp tightness, that's about it. I use a sharpie and mark the string to see if it creeps when i'm questioning clamp tightness, also i put my finger on the string to feel it at the clamp when releasing the tensioner (sometimes). also, you'll pull that "drawback" out on the next pull (theoretically, and i agree mostly anyhow). |

The stringss really do not seem to slip but after clamping and releasing tension the string and clamp move roughly an 1/8 of an inch away from mounting bracket or less sometimes. Is this normal or should the clamp stay locked up against the mounting bracket? I spoke to a personal friend who strings and he indicates it is normal.
Thanks for the replies. |
