When serving, if I win a point with a ball, I will do everything in my power to play with that same ball again. If I lose the point I won't play with that ball on the next point.
That's about it I think? Oh, and I'm a bit strange in the fact I NEVER talk to myself on court. I hate making sound on court as I find noise annoying, so I do my best to avoid adding to the noise pollution on courts. -Fuji

I like to have all three balls on our court (when one rolls onto another court). I don't care which side of the net it is on, but I will get the ball even if we have two to keep going.

Definitely this one. I cannot stop thinking about that ball.

Totally agree. There's nothing worse than playing someone who keeps catching their toss. That's one rule I would like to see changed - the serve should start once the ball leaves the server's hand.

I think way more people should be catching their tosses. DF'ing is a crime against humanity.

The toss is the one thing you can practice literally anywhere, even at home! I do it quite frequently when I'm bored. -Fuji

I also do this strange thing when I'm serving where I set up, bounce the ball a couple of times, pause, look up at the sky for no apparent reason, then bounce the ball a couple more times and serve. I am NOT looking for divine intervention, flying saucers or a change in the weather, I am just staring at the sky blankly for a second or two...

You don't like playing against players who play up a level, you don't like playing against players who catch bad tosses.....why do you even bother playing?

Ha ha. Look, every now and then is fine - but 4 or 5 times in row?!?! That's a bit excessive - and extremely annoying. I would go as far as to call it gamesmanship. |

I bounce the ball 10 times before I serve. I also mimic my forehand motion with my hand before I return and when I am standing at the net to volley.

This is why I asked the question I asked you. It's only gamesmanship if you allow it to be. You can't control what your opponent does, but you can control how you react to what your opponent does.

I have to have all 3 balls, especially in singles... but in doubles I have to be pumped up and I get into gladiator-barbarian mode where I am giving my partner high fives, chest bumps, yelping, doing the Hewitt thing, but only in doubles which is like the ultimate quirk game stuff.

I want all 3 balls as well and pretty much for the same reason. I don't like walking over and picking them up. I'll at times be standing there with two in pocket and ask for the third off the fence.

My clothes don't always match. Whew, feels good to let that one off my chest.
A few weeks ago I played a guy that always held one ball in his hand while it was my serve. Kind of odd. Didn't bother me though, I just thought it was weird. |

One of the guys I played with today (well I guess yesterday since it's 2am) he served like this. I couldn't do it as I use my off hand to set the racquet and help change grips effectively. Putting a ball in that hand would make me think too much.

My only quirk I think I really have is I show up 30-45min early for any match so that I can hit maybe 10 serves and jog around the court for a few laps and stretch before my opponents show up. guess this bothers no one because they have no idea how long i have been waiting on them.
I call it a quirk because if for some reason I can't do my pre-game ritual I for some reason normally play terrible...mostly on service games. Years of body checking people into plexi glass it takes me a while to warm up and get my shoulder loose and the 5 min typical warm-up it never enough. |
