Stringing Patterns

Hi all,

I am fairly new to stringing racquets. Normally when i string a racquet, Klippermate guide tells me that i need to skip 8 and 10 at the head and throat which has always been fine, since the holes are directly opposite each other.

However, yesterday i ran into a situation where the skip holes for the Head and the skip holes for the throat were different. This puzzled me, because wouldn't this mean the string would be at a diagonal, and not straight up and down the frame since the skip holes are different?

Appreciate any advice.

On older wooden racquets it was perfectly normal for skip holes to be different, and the last main would have a slightly diagonal angle.

However, just because the skip holes are different doesn't necessarily mean that the string will be diagonal. There could be a cross string running between 7 and 9 on the head but none on the throat, or vice versa.

Many racquets do not have symmetrical skips at head and throat, in particular those with fan pattern mains and frames that are narrower at the throat.
Some have no throat skips at all!

Different racquets have different stringing patterns. There is a website klipperusa.com that lists the patterns, string lengths for the mains and crosses, skip hole, tying off holes for the mains and crosses, etc.

Once you get to the website, click the box that says "stringing patterns". It will take you to a page that lists all the racquet brands. You click the one you want then you look on the list for the particular racquet name.

This is a helpful website. I bought a stringing machine a couple of years ago in order to string my kids' racquets. Now from time to time I string racquets for the members of the club where they train. This website is valuable since all the racquets are different.
