Concerned about ntrp

I self rates last year as a 4.0. Last summer I lost first three doubles competitively. This year I played for two teams. One team played solid 4.0s and lost in TB. Second match lost against two 4.0 4-4. Other team I played against I lost 0-0 ( had 3.5 partner and we played 2 4.0), 1-1 against solid 4.0 team and then I played singles and lost 4/2. Do you all think my rating will get bumped? I don't want to get bumped down. Or do you all think since I lost competitively to 4.0s I will be ok? So worried!

I wouldn't worry at all. The 0-0 loss doesn't count against your rating (a quirk of the computer algorithm) and all but one other match were competitive enough. I don't think you'll be bumped.

Thank you. I wasn't sure how if any the computer views a 4.0 s v a 4.0 c. Some of my friends have won many matches at 4.0 but they have played against a 3.5 playing up. So is it better to win against a 3.5/4.0 combo tightly or lose against a 4.0/4.0 team? Also- so no 0/0 losses are counted?

The S vs C makes no difference. What matters is the dynamic rating of your opponent(s) (and your partner if a doubles match). The USTA keeps everyone's actual ratings to two digits (i.e. 3.6, and that's what is used in the calcs. So a 3.68 is the same in the algorithm regardless of whether the player is 4.0S or 4.0C.

Self-rated players are probably more likely to be bumped up or down than players with established ratings. I just don't think your results are in the range to be bumped, even as a self-rate.

3.5/4.0 or 4.0/4.0 depends on if the players fall in the upper or lower ranges of their rating level. I would guess that losing to a 4.0/4.0 team would be better. And the computer doesn't care about who wins or loses the match. It only cares about the number of games won vs. number of games lost.

Some people say 6-0, 6-0 matches don't count because the computer can't tell how far below the loser really is from the winner. I would lose to Federer 6-0, 6-0, but so could #250 in the world. That doesn't mean that both of the losers are 4.0's.
Others say it is because defaults are recorded as 6-0, 6-0, which don't count towards your rating, and it's programming laziness that the computer can't tell the difference between a default and a blowout.

I never understand why someone would be concerned about a bump down. Is it a pride thing?

If you get bumped down, it is due to being non-competitive at that level. The computer is trying to help find you competitive opponents when it bumps you.

Yes - I am a big enough person to say its pride.....Because I know the competition out there and I can compete. Not blaming doubles partners but I did have doubles partner issues. Not that I was UE free. But I know I belong at the 4.0 level. The good news is even if I get bumped I can still play up.
