Default My First Tournament

My first tournament is Saturday (30th). It's a non-sanctioned round robin style tournament that I'll be playing singles and possibly doubles in if my partner doesn't have to work. I can't wait to get out there and play in a more competitive setting.

Well it's a local round robin so I don't think they will really have levels. The tournament info isn't even on USTA. It's being advertised in 3 or 4 small towns and I think all the tennis people around here know each other because it's small towns. So I think they'll just try to stick people in with people around their level. It's not the most organized thing in the world but to each their own.

If I play well (not necessarily win but hit shots I'm mostly happy with) I'll probably play the Wyoming Open at 3.0 on the 6th, 7th, and 8th. No expectations but for fun

Have fun with it. Match play should be a plus for you no matter what. It is a whole different mindset than just casual hitting at any level.

That's my hope we'll see how mentally tough I am for sure.

So I took second place at the tournament today. There were only 5 people in the singles tournament and I beat the two guys my age that I played against. The one guy that beat me was a 4.0 that's been playing for 20yrs more than I have so I feel okay with that. We played 10 game sets and my final scores were 11-9, 10-1, 2-10. I hit well, hustled alot, and had alot of fun. I'm signed up to play the 3.0 singles tournament in the Wyoming Open.

Nice job. You got two games off of a 4.0 player, so that has to feel pretty good. I played my first USTA tourney earlier this month which prompted me to enter the other three offered in my state this summer. Fun!

Yeah it felt great I could have gotten a couple more but I lost after being up 0-40 on two of his serves. I really need to work on my serve as he smashed all of my second serves that didn't have much spin on them.
