Default String Thing String Straightening Device

Has anybody ever used the String Thing String Straightening Device as a tool for straightening the strings on a racket while stringing.

Let me know your thoughts.

Yes, I use it to put the finishing touches on a string job. Have not used it on the court while playing but it works great to finish a job.

If you use fixed clamps and keep the strings straight as you go there is no need.

Use the open pattern works ok. I won't buy the closed model.

It only works okay. I use to straighten strings after a string job. I straighten as I go and it still falls short on the satisfactory gauge.

Open pattern did not work for me. User error perhaps.

My favorite thing about the string thing is that Philippoussis keeps it in his pocket while playing.

I use it during a match, when I feel like my strings have gotten misaligned. It works great for me, you just have to buy the one that is appropriate to your racquet--the open pattern vs. the closed pattern.

It is a pretty slick little device, straightens the strings back out in no time.

I at times use it when stringing natural gut. Works fairly well, although in the grand scheme of things, unecessary.

Flipper gave all of us (stringers) at the Delray ATP a string thing. Here is a vid of him demonstrating it to us.

BTW, Really cool guy.

From a stringing perspective, I found that it works ok, but not quite well enough. If your strings are all over the place, it does a decent job of realigning them. If they need a slight adjustment (such as if you've just done a string job, and a few aren't quite as straight as they could be), it's not so useful.

I agree 100%. You nailed it on the head.

Why and have you never tried the closed?

When I first saw a String Thing at the pro shop, I thought it was some kind of bogus gimmick, but after a while decided "what the heck, it's only 20 bucks". Turned out that it works great, and everyone that sees mine wants to borrow it and give it a try. They have all thought it is pretty slick.
