A man burns about 100 calories per mile walking (flat surface). I've burned over 2000 calories practicing tennis in a couple of hours (basket of balls, so no stopping even to pick up balls). That would be about a 20 mile walk. I don't think 20 mile walks are very time efficient.

5 mph walking on hilly terrain is pretty strenuous exercise for some of us schlubs, so if tennis delivers a comparable or better workout it's not too bad from a fitness standpoint...
Singles is more like interval training than walking though, right? High intensity/rest/high intensity/rest. So it seems like there might be differences in effect that go beyond calories burned. |
