Tension: 55 lbs cross and main
Equipment: Donnay x dual silver 99 after a brief warmup period i started to let my swing fly and my first thoughts were “this seems very springing and pingy”. the strings also seemed to exaggerate topspin (not in a good way). the string bed also felt very light perhaps due to the 17 gauge cross? the tcs probably gives a good amount of spin already, but the lower gauge on the nrg2 probably added even more spin. the string bed also seemed extremely lively and hard to control with not a lot of pocketing. the harder my swing, the more spin, but no penetration. hit after hit i got a lot of short or mid range loopy balls with excessive spin. overall i didn’t like this setup since it seems to have too much spin, no enough penetration, and control was an issue as the excessive spin made it hard to judge where my balls would land. i do have another half set of the tcs 17 and nrg 2 in a 16 gauge. i’ll probably try this and i bet my results with be different. serves were ok, nothing special, however, i could definitely see more action on my second serve kicker especially out wide. in the end, i lost confidence it this setup as balls were hard to control with not enough penetration. the only upside was the tremendous feel i got, especially on drop shots and short agle slices. volleys were above average, but lacked good pop. lastly, i didn’t spend a whole lot of time testing this setup, so there may be a break in period, which i will follow up on if my results change. Closing thoughts: the combination of tcs which seems to be a softer somewhat more powerful poly, mixed with nrg2, a very powerful multi made this setup hard to control and very unpredictable, especially with topspin on my forehand. serves were average except second serve. feel was very good however with touch shots and short angles. if i were to do this again, i would use a 16 gauge for the cross and perhaps a less powerful multi. if you anyone has questions or comments feel free....! |

TCS and TCS Rapid beg to be strung in a full bed -- they are excellent strings.

I agree. Ive only used TCS not TCS Rapid. It is soft enough to use in a full bed and has great feel. I would string in the mid fifties. I will try 60 next time. TCS is a great string but does not last that much as it looses tension. Right now its the best string setup for my Aerprodrive, when the stringbed is fresh. When it goes dead it drives me crazy as it looses its string qualities dramatically.
