Federer actually mentioned before that it's the media who makes up these things and demand a player must do this or that to be considered great. But it's all up in the air.
The weak backhand is another. Forehand shanks are another.

Yeah but Federer makes up for those shanks by pulling on the FH with his biceps.

If Federer doesn't win the singles Gold, two things are guaranteed...

Many people will still consider him as the greatest.

He will greatly regret every one of his 2004, 2008, and 2012 (assuming it happens) Olympics losses to seemingly inferior opponents.

I always want to ask this question of people who say that Federer is not GOAT. Alright then, who is? Surely not Nadal who is only dominated (won at least 4 or 5 times) the French Open and non other of the top 5 events (Slams + Year end finals). (Federer has dominated 4 out of 5 of the top 5 events). So who? And if your criteria is that they won every important event (and the Olympics being an 'important event' is dubious), who is the player that has done that? (Agassi didn't win the Grand Slam Cup if you were going to nominate him - and those who think that was just an exhibition - didn't see how hard those guys played it). So who is the GOAT if Federer is definitively isn't?

I beg to differ.

Unlike a Masters, the 750 points don't have to be defended. That, and the fact that it only takes place every 4 years makes the Olympic gold just as important, if not even more.

If Fred does not win, we won't hear the end of it from sureshs and his camp. They will go berserk creating silly threads, of course, sureshs knows how to keep within the rules.

I doubt Federer will win an Olympic gold medal in singles. He faces John Isner next, who beat Federer indoors in 2012. He can match Federer.

Right, a tournament that hadn't been played since the 20's, and was brought back in the late 80's, is somehow the determining factor of ones GOATability, obviously *******s are experiencing a lot of butthurt since Rosol crushed their spirits for Wimbledon and the Olympics. I sure hope Rafa comes back soon, I'd hate to think what could happen to all *******s if he doesn't.

Daltonism is shockingly widespread on this forum. They just can't see things the way everyone else does. We should all feel sorry for them. It is genetic, it is not their fault.

Suresh, you are simply delusional. At first I thought Federer's chances of winning Wimbledom were not very good. And then Federer proclaimed that he would also retake number 1 in the world and I thought that was delusional.

Not so, around here it's Suresh.
