Players who skip the Olympics. Is Mardy Fish a moron????
What is up with players like Mardy Fish and Andy Roddick not playing (or threatening not to play) the Olympics so they can focus on the U.S. hard court season? Don't these MORONS see the value of an Olympic medal??? An Olympic Gold is right up there with a Wimbledon title and certainly way above winning the Citi Open. Too many of our American tennis players simply have no respect for prestigious international competitions like the Olympics or Davis Cup. All they care about is money. And you know what? Sampras was the biggest putz of all...maybe if he hadn't set such a bad example, more of our players would be serious about playing for their country.

With Nadal injured, Djokovic, Murray, and Federer tired. Fish has the best chance of winning Toronto, which is worth more points...

Mardy had a health scare during the selection process and didn't think he could enter. He didn't skip. The moron is the person who makes ignorant assumptions.

It's hard for me to wrap my head around anyone in any sport skipping the olympics. I understand the wanting to give people another chance (we all see how that turned out lol), and the fact that he already had a medal, but still...

It's hard to do well at both Olympics and Toronto, given how close together they are timewise, but long travel time between the two, and surface difference.
So given the choice between Olymics and Toronto, assuming you are intending to do well at the event you selected: Olympics - 750 points, must battle for it against other top players Toronto - 1000 points, with probably a weaker field than Olympics So it makes business sense to skip Olympics and focus on Toronto. And for pro players tennis is business. |

Realistically, 3 men had a chance of winning medals at the Olympics. Fair play to Del Potro for trying to break the normality but he won't beat Djokovic for a medal.
Fish is terrible, THE worst American number 1 I've ever known. Iner isn't much better. There must be a new cycle of American tennis players due to come through soon. |
