Should either or both Roger and Serena fail to taste gold in the Olympics finals, do you think the tennis world will begin referring to their body of work with regard to Slams and Olympics as the "Silver Slam?"
I'm guessing, and predicting, right now that someone in the national/worldwide media is going to use this phrase and we are going to hear about it. I could even see it becoming more common than a few odd mentions. I will not acknowledge it. If Federer or S. Williams settles for the silver medal, that will be great, but you can't invent a career accolade when one of the necessary requirements is based on finishing second, while the other four are for becoming champion. I think if one of them loses, it will happen, because the national/worldwide media likes its flashy monikers and buzzwords. Some producer somewhere will think it sounds good as a lead in for the upcoming highlights or a feature or something, and then it'll be in danger of catching on. ![]() On the other hand, perhaps Rog' and 'Rena will take the gold and put away the possibility of such foolishness for at least another four years. Thoughts? Last edited by Surecatch : 08-03-2012 at 12:24 PM. |

I agree with the last paragraph.

Very good thread. Federer is already the GOAT with the Silver Career Slam and he has doubles gold too.
