Default Nadal Fans - a hypothetical

Nadal comes back in January, but he's not the same... he still shows flashes of brilliance, but has lost a half step, isn't as confident in his knee, and while he can still beat lapdogs, he's getting pwned by the top 6-8.

Clay season rolls around, he still can't win.

Even Federer blasts the guy off the court in the FO QF's (nadal's ranking has dropped to 5) in route to his 2nd FO title.... DelPo DESTROYS him at the USO on a hot fast court 3, 4, 1... Rosol even gets a win over him in Miami 5, 5.

At every press conference it's the same: "I'm gaining confidence in each match with the knee, no? it's a work in progress, no? "

He has a zero slam, only made the finals of MC, where he lost to DelPo in straights (and at one point DelPo nails him in the groin with a monster forehand)

You really don't see any sign of improvement.... how long would you stick by him before you'd just as soon see him retire before the H2H's get reversed and the horrible losses start piling up.

When does quitting to protect your legacy outweigh the enjoyment of seeing your favorite player take the court?

Nah! Come on man! Nadal is going to be winning clay tournaments FOR SURE! Even at 80% health. I personally think anything less than 90% of his best will not beat a 100% Djokovic. I feel Nadal has to play 100% to beat a supreme form Djokovic. But Nadal can play at 75-80% against anybody else on the tour on clay and still win, including Federer, Murray and Del Potro.
On hardcourts and grass though, nothing less than a 100% Nadal will be taking the title unless everybody else is playing far below their levels too.

I'd want to watch him play as long as he enjoys it. just for those flashes of brilliance.

H2H or any other stat will not matter in debate of legacy anyway...he did what he did and nothing that follows will take it away.

What's James Blake ranked now? ...yet people will always talk about that monster forehand

What's Hewitt Ranked now? ...still has plenty of fans and anytime he gets a good match going against a big name it is very exciting.

Jimmy conners had some of the worst years of his career leading up to his USO open semi final run in 1991 is one of the most iconic things to happen at a slam.

If Rafa looks like he is fighting to win...that's all I ever want is to see the fight...to me that's what got my attention to watch rafa in the first place.

Is Nadal going to play in AO ? some reports say no, this one says yes.

Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray at Australian Open 2013, as Nadal returns

11-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal will make his appearance at the Australian Open with a lot of confidence, where he will start the new season at Doha Open in first week of January.

That sums it up for me, why make this threads all the time instead of doing intresting threads, what if all that happens to federer or djoko?

That's a pretty depressing "hypothetical" for Nadal fans. I'm not one and even I don't wish that to happen to Nadal. The Rosol loss at Miami would be traumatizing for him.

As a Nadal fan and astrologist I have a wider perspective - Nadal is in a down cycle; see Borg, Graf, Clijsters mid-career drama if aren't familiar with that.

I'm happy he took the time off, he needed it. I also like the way her clobbered the djoker again, and again, and again before disappearing. That way no one can say he ran away from the competition.

IF Nadal return to his normal training schedule I expect him to do was he does during the clay season, then make his comeback statement in New York. By my calculations his down cycle ends September 2013

i'm the hypothetical thread guy.

And i've picked on all players equally.

I mean i started the thread of what the hypothetical impact would be if Federer was gay.

So although admittedly i'm a Fed fan first.. i'm a equal opportunity hypothetical thread creator
